Chiefs Win! Chiefs Win! Chiefs Win!

Chiefs Win! Chiefs Win! Chiefs Win! – on February 2, in the year of 2020, the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in a game much closer than the score, 31-20. The best team won, and it was not the 49ers. It was a hard-fought game. The 49ers did not let the Chiefs run rough-shot over them.  Instead, the Chiefs had to earn it and earn it they did.

It was difficult. The Chiefs went into half-time, tied 10-10 (BTW, J-Lo and Shakira, you guys were awesome!). I can live with that… but then the 49ers started feeling themselves in the 3rd quarter, and before I could catch what was happening, they were up on the Chiefs, 20-10.

In the fourth quarter, the 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo began to fall apart:

Also in the fourth quarter, young 24-year-old Patrick Mahomes mastered a 3-TD comeback. When the Chiefs were down 20-to-10 we wondered: is he who we thought he was? Then the comeback answered that, again. Yes, he is who we thought he was, and much more. You could say that, “Mahomes matriculated the ball down the field,” and he did it more than once, garnering the Chiefs 21 unanswered points in the space of less than the last 9 minutes of the 4th quarter. Many a football pundit would call that uniquely fortuitous… but now I just call it, Chiefs football. Mahomes may not have played his best game but he was great when he needed to be — late in the game — but, the nail in the coffin came from Chiefs RB Damien Williams as the Chiefs were just attempting to gain a first down and he did this:

At the end of the game, the Chiefs, the winners — and I cannot get enough of calling the Chiefs, Super Bowl winners — shook hands with the team’s opposing players, and did the post game shenanigans. One thing left out, and we could not know, was that this team won this Super Bowl for Andy Reid. He’s a heckuva coach. We are lucky to have him. The Eagles made a mistake by letting him go. Then, in a classy move by their organization, they posted this after the game:

We’ll dissect the game on Arrowhead One for the next week… or year, however, the only stats you need are from our Herculean QB Patrick Mahomes. Although the offensive maestro threw an uncharacteristic 2 interceptions, his first ever in the postseason, he passed for one and ran for two. No worries. The Chiefs are the Super Bowl champions!

Let’s roll with that. We’ll dissect everything else in the days and weeks or months to come. For now, let’s celebrate the fact that the Chiefs are the best team in the NFL, and look like they may be for some years to come!

Chiefs fans, your team is the best football team in the world. Tonight, we proved it. Embrace it, cuddle it, and get used to it. It’s the first of many to come. We have a 24-year-old QB who looks to be with us for many years. I dig that!

For all the haters, in the words of late legendary rapper Biggie Smalls, “If you don’t know, now you know.” The Chiefs are the team to deal with for the next decade at least. In the end:

    • Who had the best defense? The Chiefs did.
    • Who had a RB with the most rushing yards? The Chiefs did.
    • Who had the best 3rd down efficiency? The Chiefs did.
    • Who had the best quarterback? The Chiefs did.
    • Who are the Super Bowl LIV Champions? The Chiefs are!

There’s so much to love about this Chiefs team. Tyrann Mathieu, in a post game interview, mentions all his coaches as being people who believed in him this year and then adds, “You know, I have so much peace in my life, I’m going to go celebrate this with my family.” When asked about his current situation: impending marriage, alma mater LSU’s national championship and now Super Bowl victory, he replied, “Life is good, God is better.” He’s a special person, who also posted this after the game:

While the Chiefs fans were concerned if the Chiefs WRs could break free from a very good 49ers secondary, Sammy Watkins showed that he could solve their coverage with perhaps the game’s biggest catch:

You can’t minimize what this will mean for someone like Offensive Coordinator Eric Bieniemy. He should have a head coaching job offer in one year for sure. Plus, Defensive line coach, Brendan Daly just won back to back Super Bowl rings with two different teams and that should not be downplayed. Also, you can’t take away one bit of spotlight from head coach Andy Reid’s 222nd victory. This should quiet all doubters and whenever he decides to hang them up, he’ll have a Hall of Fame jacket waiting for him.

The best way to send us off into the bliss of knowing that the Kansas City Chiefs are once again Super Bowl Champions, is with a quote by Travis Kelce. He said this after the game,

“You got to fight,

For your right,

To LOM-BARRR-DI.”
