The Kansas City Chiefs may have won this preseason game two against the Arizona Cardinals 38-to-10 but it’s the first half most were interested in. For the Chiefs to start this game with a 3-and-out doesn’t reflect Andy Reid’s promise to “do better” (than the first drive against the Saints) and so, instead of seeing Patrick Mahomes and the starters for one series, they played for most of the first half.
.
.
As a result, the first team came away with two TDs and a FG drive at the two minute warning. It wasn’t until the final two minutes before the half that the Cards went on a drive that ended up in a TD and an extra point… and that was given up by the Chiefs second team Defense.
However, the Chiefs Defense held the Cards to a 3-and-out and they played much better than they did last week against the Saints. Then again, we’re talking about the Arizona Cardinals here… a bottom feeding organization. The Chiefs Offense then followed up their abysmal 3-and-out with a 5-and-out. Not much better but it surely was the reason that the first team offense kept coming out onto the field during the first half.
The Chiefs defense then had an 8-play stop of the Cards Offense and the Chiefs Offense followed that up with a 10-play drive for a TD: an 18-yard pass play to Justin Watson in the back of the end zone as Patrick Mahomes was rolling to his right.

.
Also in the first half… while Mahomes was taking snaps, he had a Mahomes-esk play that will not soon be forgotten.
.
.
He rolled to his right and jumped out of bounds then fired the ball off of Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s hand. An amazing throw. It was a 3rd-and-16 play and would have produced a first down, but the play was outstanding none-the-less.
QB Shane Buchelle took over and produced, as did all the Chiefs QBs in this game. Thus, the 38-to-10 final score. Here’s a look at the Chiefs QBs for the day (night):

Anytime your four QBs go 31 for 38, throw 3 TDs and run for another one (like Shane Buchelle did) then you can almost guarantee a victory, which is exactly what the Chiefs came away with.
The second and third units played much better in this game and that allowed the Chiefs to come away with a 21-to-3 second half points-wise. The overall game was 38-to-10 but the first half, when the first team was in, was the real story on the night… so that’s what we’ll focus on here.
