Four days after the Chiefs opened the 2023 Season with a loss, the Kansas City Chiefs and their holdout DT Chris Jones, have signed a one-year deal, plus incentives. While Chris Jones has made it clear he wants to only play for the Chiefs, and it looks like we are either headed for a repeat performance of his holdout next offseason or he ends up wearing different colors in the future.
From chiefs.com GM Brett Veach says:
.
“Chris is an elite player in this league, and over the last seven years, he’s really developed into a leader on our team. He’s been instrumental to our success and Super Bowl championship runs and it was a priority for us to keep him in a Chiefs uniform. I’d like to thank Chris and his representation, Michael and Jason Katz, for their desire and patience to get this done. Through this process two things were obvious, Chris wanted to be a Chief, and the Katz brothers worked diligently on his behalf.”
.
CJ has been holding out the whole offseason and while we can expect him back for this weekend’s game in Jacksonville against the Jaguars, he may not be up to standard, meaning –> game shape. That was the case with Kadarius Toney last weekend when he attempted to return after missing out on all of the Chiefs Training Camp practices. fox4kc.com listed all of the highest paid DTs in the NFL including:

.
From Adam Teicher at ESPN, he writes:
.
“Jones received incentives in the new contract that would allow him to earn more than the $19.5 million he was scheduled to make this season under his old contract, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.”
.
.
“Chris Jones still has one year left on his deal with the Chiefs, no new years were added to his contract, but he received multiple incentives to earn considerably more money this season, per sources.”
.
With each game having playoff implications now, and each team they play giving them their best shot, the Chiefs need all of their weapons, and Chris Jones is one of the best and likely the best defensive player on their roster.
