Kansas City Chiefs

Da Chiefs Dowse Da Bears, 41-to-10

Laddie Morse

The Kansas City Chiefs went up 34-to-0 at half-time then cruised to a 41-to-10 victory. On the other hand, the Bears beat the Chiefs in the second half, 10 to 7. Not to worry… anytime your team scores 41 points total, you usually come out on top, which our Kansas City Chiefs did in outstanding fashion.

The Chiefs did not win the coin toss so they had the ball first but frittered away that opportunity. If you read my piece from yesterday called, “Bears at Chiefs: OPEN TRHEAD, 15 Questions” the first question I had was about Patrick Mahomes and whether or not we’d see the PM from the first two game of this season or… the PM from seasons past? The first drive made me feel as if the Mahomes we would witness on this day was the PM from the first two games of this season but then the real deal Mahomes showed up. He finished with 3 passing TDs, 272 total yards passing, and he was 24 of 33 with a 127.3 passer rating.

Mahomes passer rating for the year’s first two games was way under 90 (88.1), but Mahomes’ career passer rating is 105.2.

The Chiefs Defense

The real story of this game was the Chiefs defense. AGAIN! In game one of this season, the Lions marched into Arrowhead and stole the Chiefs thunder by winning 21-to-20 while only two of their TDs could be connected to their offense with one coming on a pick-6 off the hands of Kadarius Toney. In Week Two of this season, the Chiefs Defense allowed the Jags only three Field Goals and zero TDs. This Sunday, in Week Three, the Defense allowed one TD and even though it came late in the game off of a Blaine Gabbert (K.C.’s backup QB) INT it still counts as a Touchdown.

“Get Right Game”

That means the Chiefs Defense has given up three TDs and four Field Goals in the first three weeks of the season. ArrowheadPride has an article written by Ron Kopp called, “The Chiefs’ offense has its get-right game” in which he says:

.

“The pass protection was very solid, giving Mahomes ample time. It did not allow a sack. The only hiccup was once again at right tackle: Jawaan Taylor attracted two flags for illegal formation — one of them taking away a long touchdown. He did not come out with the starting offense in the third quarter. He was replaced by Prince Tega Wanogho for the second consecutive week.”

.

When Donovan Smith went down with an injury near the beginning of the 3rd quarter, Taylor went back to his Right Tackle position while Prince Tega Wanogho moved from Right to Left Tackle.

Here are the Game Stats provided by ESPN:

Patrick Mahomes Record

The Kansas City Star pointed out Patrick Mahomes record as the first NFL QB to reach 25,000 yards passing, in the fewest games:

.

“Entering Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, Mahomes was 228 passing yards shy of 25,000 for his career. Mahomes got the record in the third quarter when he connected with wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling on a 37-yard pass.”

.

Taylor Swift in Attendance

Erin Andrews had a question for Patrick Mahomes about the Swifties (0:32):

.

.

While I imagine that the presence of Taylor Swift had some influence on Travis Kelce, I certainly doubt it had an ounce of pressure on Patrick Mahomes.

.

Rashee Rice Game

Although many a blogger was not happy with Rashee Rice he ended up being the second leading receiver on the day right behind Travis Kelce. Rice had 5 receptions on 7 targets for 59 yards, and an 11.3 yards per reception average. “Rashee Rice said he’s growing into the offense with his packages… just has to learn to reach the ball out to get those TDs.

Defense: Best in the NFL?

Willie Gay had something important to say about the Chiefs defense after the game (Harold R. Kuntz):

.

“Willie Gay in locker room on the defense…

very pleased with their performance and

added “We’re the best in the NFL.

.

Game Ball Goes To…

The Game Ball Goes To… Andy Reid for making sure they call a game that doesn’nt require them taking their foot off the gas pedal. Reid now has the 4th most wins in NFL History with 271.

271. Wow!

Reid had a game plan to make sure his offense didn’t burp or sputter. After the first drive of the game, the offense came alive and the Defense remained strong, although the credit for that goes to Steve spagnuolo, the Defensive Coordinator.

“My son attending today’s Chiefs game at Arrowhead. He lives a few hrs away, hasn’t attended a game in 14 yrs, last game he attended was with me. He’s sitting below suite with Travis’ family, friends, & Taylor Swift. I asked him if I could share photo. He said yes.”
