How Did K.C. Do on Alchemy Week

Laddie Morse

Alchemy means: a seemingly magical process of transformation, creation, or combination.

Wasn’t this past week exactly that? GM “George” Brett Veach hit lots of home runs (and at least a boat load of doubles) and if he gets Chris Jones back in the fold, all will be forgiven for his past month of absence. This may have as much to do with CJs absence as anything else. From John Dixon @Arrowheadphones:

.

“Until Tuesday, cap space is still calculated under top-51 rules. And until Chris Jones reports, the #Chiefs have an extra $19.5 million in cap space. Without it, the team is $2.6 million over the cap. With it, Kansas City is $16.9 million under.”

.

Consequently, I’m of the opinion that Chris Jones will be on the team next Thursday when the Chiefs face the Detroit Lions but Jones will be a part time participant. Here’s another reason:

.

.

The Chiefs go up against the Detroit Lions next Thursday evening at Arrowhead Stadium. Patrick Mahomes has done quite well for himself in opening games since he came into the league:

.

.

Brett Veach made a trade of sorts by allowing DB Kahlef Hailassie (4.53 – 40) to sign with the Browns while he picked up a player off the Indiana Colts Practice Squad in the name of: DB Darius Rush. An excellent trade off as I understand it. Rush stands 6-foot-2, 198 lbs. and runs a 4.36 40 yard dash. K.C. had also already signed DT Neil Farrell off the Raiders PS list. This year, after the cuts and re-signing of players, the Chiefs roster looks like this:

.

.

.

Last year Veach added DE Carlos Dunlap at the end of July and he participated in all of Training Camp and was ultimately helpful for bringing another Lombardi Trophy to K.C.. However, there were many other moves that Veach and his Team made in 2022, after bringing Dunlap aboard including:

.

.

Then, when September of 2022 rolled around:

.

.

This year, or should i say, this week, the Chiefs via Brett Veach:

.

.

I’d like to remind everyone that all roster decisions are made with three heads in mind: HC Andy Reid, CEO Clark Hunt, and Brett Veach (and his team) which are all in the loop. Meaning, they all have a say-so as to who makes the roster and who doesn’t. More from Matt Derrick on the roster:

.

.

.

.

.

Brett Veach has been quoted as saying it’s his job to make the team 1% better any time he can.

.

“Our priority is always to find any sort of advantage… If there’s any way we can get better and if there’s any way we can get Patrick Mahomes more weapons, we’ll do that… I don’t think we’ll ever shy away from trying to get that 1% advantage.”

.

I’d say the team is stronger than it was when they won Super Bowl LVII. What do you think? Did the Chiefs come up with the right “magical process of transformation?” IOW, is this team good enough to make it all the way?
