K.C. Chiefs: “On the other hand…”

K.C. Chiefs: “On the other hand…”

As readers, bloggers and writers we each react, or overreact to game situations. As the editor and chief of a Chiefs related website I am clearly never clear about what to publish. This mostly stems from a phrase I’ve had stuck in my head for decades that says, “on-the-other-hand.” That comes from when I once played the lead role in “Fiddler on the Roof” for a local thespian group called the Olive Branch Players. While I’ll never forget the many wonderful people I had the privilege of sharing the stage with or the full orchestration or playing Tevye, the main character, it was Tevye’s talks with God and reasoning, which included the phrase, “on the other hand” which has stuck with me most.

Not only has on-the-other-hand helped me deal with the Chiefs most recent loss but it sure came in handy in the aftermath of a recent national civic event (subject closed). That is to say, as a life skill, on the other hand, has been invaluable.

What does this really have to do, if anything at all, with the Kansas City Chiefs? Well, it just so happens that because our favorite team has taken us on a journey that includes an emotional drubbing (that’s how it felt) on Sunday, a lot of us may be in a state of reacting or overreacting and could use a dose of Tevye right now. I’ll give you some examples:

  • The Chiefs head coach should be replaced because as an offensive coordinator he tries to get too cute at times and has lost this team several games by doing so… on the other hand… Andy Reid has taken a team to the Super Bowl before and has a 39-and-19 winning record since becoming the Chiefs HC counting regular season and the playoffs.
  • The Chiefs keep falling behind in games and by the time the fourth quarter rolls around they’re down by multiple scores… on the other hand… this season these Chiefs have come back and won every one of those games (that they had a chance to win) until Sunday.
  • The Chiefs had no rush to speak of and gave Bucs QB Jameis Winston all day long to throw the ball… on the other hand… it was Justin Houston’s first game back from a horrific knee injury and Dee Ford was out with a hammy plus when you consider that Winston has 7 or 8 seconds to throw the ball the DBs did a decent job of sticking to their man or at least staying close enough to immediately tackle them.
  • The Chiefs defense couldn’t get off the field and allowed Tampa Bay to convert 11-of-16 attempts… on the other hand………….. now , I want you to know that part of the “Fiddler on the Roof” story includes a moment where Tevye is talking to God and he’s saying on the other hand and then he yells, THERE IS NO OTHER HAND. This might be one of those cases.

So, what I’m suggesting here is that is that as we each blog about an overall perception we have about the Chiefs or a specific about the Bucs game, that you go ahead and end your blog with a differing thought following the words “on the other hand….”

And, if for some reason(s) you can’t bring yourself to say, on the other hand… go ahead and just state your case (or you can always say → There is no other hand!).

Let er rip Chiefs fans.
