K.C. Chiefs and the Sunday Sum Up! 7.23.17

Hi guys and welcome back! We have had a few things of note this week in the Chiefs Kingdom. We signed our QBOTF and one of our pass rushers appears to be venting all on Twitter. So we will get right to it. Here is your Sunday Sum Up!

TAMBA TACKLES TWITTER

Tamba Hali has been a force on the Kansas City defense for years now and it would appear as if he is unhappy with the amount of playing time he is receiving. Unless his account was hacked and someone is making posts in his name it seems as if he is very unhappy with his snap count. I could go into detail on what he is saying but I’ll just let you get it straight from the horses mouth. Here are some of his tweets:

He does bring up some very good points in his rants. Hali has been with the Chiefs for 11 years and never misses a game. He has been nothing short of resilient playing through injuries and pain. Also remember that Justin Houston is more effective with Hali occupying the left tackle. How many plays have we sat by and watched him get put into a choke hold and still make it to the QB? I do understand that he is getting a little long in the tooth but he is not riding a rascal into Walgreens to pick up his prescriptions and Werther’s Originals yet. He still has some tread on the tires and I say we should use his expertise and skills until he is unable to contribute. Ford is coming along and may have a breakout year, so this will affect Hali’s snap count but he can still contribute. Imagine if you will, 4th quarter, 3rd and 10, the Raiders are pinned deep in their own territory. Sutton draws up a wild play. Houston, Hali, Ford, and Logan are set on the line. The ball is snapped, Carr takes a 3 step drop and eyes Cooper down the left side of the field. Hali is bearing down on him. He turns to run and finds Houston a step away from tearing him in half. Carr steps up in the pocket and has Ford and Logan have shed their blockers and are converging on him. With nowhere to go he tucks the ball down for an inevitable sack. When I think of Hali I think of a relentless motor and a drive to be the best. Give him his due. Let him play.

PATRICK’S PAYDAY

On Thursday, July 20th the Kansas City Chiefs signed first round pick, quarterback Patrick Mahomes II. Let that sink in. Just bask in it for a moment. The Chiefs. Yes the Kansas City Chiefs, have signed a first round quarterback of their own selection. It has been years since those words have been said. Love him or hate him the Chiefs have finally made it official. Spotrac has said the contract will be for 4 years $16.4 million dollars. The Chiefs do hold a 5th year option for the rookie signal caller. This contract came just in time. In just a few short days he will be in St. Joseph for training camp along with all of the other rookies. It is surely reassuring for him to have the contract details out of the way and only have to focus on becoming one of the best in the game. He certainly has an uphill battle. Quarterbacks fail all of the time for a number of reasons. Very rarely do teams find the next Brady Manning or Rodgers. More often than not you get a Fitzpatrick. Serviceable but nothing to write home about. With Mahomes the Chiefs have a legitimate downfield passer and playmaker. Only time will tell if all of that potential will materialize into something truly special or if we have drafted the next Leaf.

TANTALIZING TIDBITS

Michael Fabiano from NFL.com has made his list for top fantasy breakout players for 2017 and it comes as no surprise that Kansas City’s own Tyreek Hill has made the top 5. Coming in at number 4 on his list he writes: “Hill might not match last season’s touchdown totals, but he’s going to see far more targets in the pass attack with Jeremy Maclin no longer on the team.” So, all of you looking for a good fantasy football draft choice look no further than Tyreek Hill. He should pay off in spades come playoff time.

Jeremy Bergman from NFL.com has made a prediction that the Kansas City faithful will see Patrick Mahomes in the spotlight come December. Who will he debut against do you ask? The hated Oakland Raiders. Bergman says “An afterthought in the AFC West, the Chiefs hand the reins to Mahomes to spark the offense, with Oakland in town for a Week 14 clash. The first-year QB’s debut is typical of a gun-slinging freshman, one wrought with picks, overthrown curl routes and unfathomable late-game magic.” I’m fine with all of that as long as the late game magic results in a big W for the good guys.

There we have it guys. A lot of interesting things have happened this week. A signing, a melt down, and a few predictions. Comment below and let me know if there is anything you would like me to cover in future articles. As always VIVA LA JET SWEEP and GO CHIEFS!
