Major Points of Minor Fans: Cade Leggio

I would like to introduce you to a new piece here at ArrowheadOne called: “Major Points of Minor Fans” in which we feature younger writers and their thoughts about our favorite Kansas City team. Today I’m tickled to introduce you to Cade Leggio. Cade says his dad, Frank Leggio, is the reason he’s a Chiefs fan, that he “inherited” his love for the Chiefs (good daddy) and he’s played football since he was 9 years old. The key for Cade is his love of writing about his two passions: the Chiefs and Lacrosse.  Please help me welcome a new generation of Chiefs fans and Cade Leggio in the process!

Will Chiefs Running Back Kareem Hunt Be The Next Big Player?
by Cade Leggio

The Kansas City Chiefs running back, Kareem Hunt, is an offensive weapon. He is fast, he can catch, and when he runs, he runs with an attitude and a purpose. Hunt looks like one of the most promising running backs in the league. People were scrambling to grab him on fantasy after the Patriots game, and he became one of the most talked about people in the NFL. It is looking all good for Kareem but, I have a question though: Will Kareem Hunt be the next big running back?

Another question I have asked myself is: Will Kareem Hunt be a one year wonder?

I bet a lot of people would say that sounds silly. I can’t blame them, but at this point, why wouldn’t he become one of the best?

The other day I read an article about some of the biggest one year wonders in NFL history. I was reading through it and I noticed that one of the players on the list was in a similar situation that Kareem is in now, Ladell Betts.

Betts was a backup running back for the Redskins and didn’t get too many touches till the 2006 season when the starting running back for the Redskins was injured. In that 2006 season he exploded. Even though the rest of the Redskins didn’t do well in 2006, Ladell ran for 1,154 yards and had 445 yards receiving. It was looking bright for Ladell after that season.

Ladell could run and catch and was one of the most physical running backs in the NFL.

Something happened in the offseason because the next season Ladell Betts numbers were less than desirable. Ladell had finished off the season with 335 yards rushing and 174 yards receiving. Ladell was having trouble playing with the same amount of physicality as before and as a result he had his touches slowly fade away.

A few years later in 2010 he was traded to the Saints and he sank in the depth chart and eventually resulted in his last professional season in the NFL.

After reading about Ladell and seeing Kareem Hunt’s breakout season… plus all the play type similarities… I pray and hope that the same result won’t fall upon Kareem.

For now he is playing strong, hard, and fast and I love watching him play and show off his skill for us Chiefs fans to watch and enjoy. What are your thoughts on this? Leave a comment below. Bye and GO CHIEFS!
