I have to be honest, silly me thought this free agency period would be rather a calm affair. Calm affair? It’s been anything but that. Let’s review:
To begin with, the Chiefs kept their Pro Bowl all-everything Eric Berry by making him the highest paid Safety… for now. I say, “for now” because players are being signed like the league owners have monopoly money coming out their collective yin-yangs. They also re-signed their RG Laurent Duvernay-Tardif in what looks like a great deal… now that we’ve seen some of the other Guards get paid a boat load of money. DT Dontari Poe is still not being offered a contract by any other team which is a good sign as the days roll on, especially if John Dorsey is serious about bringing him back in 2017.
[I should just shut my mouth because I read this late on Friday evening… and the heart sinks]
Dontari Poe in high demand. Visits Colts Sun, JAX, ATL, OAK and MIA wants visits as well. If Indy doesn’t come correct he’ll be traveling

In the meantime, Dorsey is working on getting Safety Daniel Sorenson locked up.
Chiefs trying to bang out an extension with S Daniel Sorensen (an RFA), source says. Had 63 tackles last year, 3 INTs. Special-teamer, too.

Knile Davis is still a free agent and should remain so. Jamaal Charles has visited Seattle but there’s no news yet of him signing there. I still have a tiny bit of hope he can sign with the Chiefs on a team friendly deal late in free agency… after the frenzy ends. The Chiefs had ILB Gerald Hodges in for a visit but we’ve heard nothing yet about an offer or deal. Signing him would make a lot of sense. By doing so, JARD (John-Andy-Reid-Dorsey) can head into the three-day-draft weekend without a huge hole that is a “must” to be filled. The team appears to have re-signed backup interior offensive lineman Mike Person.
OL Mike Person is re-signing with the #Chiefs, a source tells me.

In free agency news in the AFC West, the Broncos appear to have signed OT Menelik Watson and I think Ryan Tracy has this one right.

Shockingly, Washington Fires GM Scot McCloughan right in the middle of the most important time of the offseason. Apparently, McCloughan had missed the combine and while it is speculated that he has problems with alcohol I think it’s important to allow those kinds of issues to be dealt with privately because I have a relative who turned their life around and we need not let a personal tragedy like that become the overall opinion of him. In the meantime, mike Mayock has been rumored to be a candidate but, Mayock denies that there has been any official contact.
Robert Griffin III is now available in free agency. He’d make an interesting signing. RGIII could be well served sitting behind Alex Smith and learning how to control his urge to run, from one of the best running QBs in the league. Plus, if he has ears to hear the whispers of one Andy Reid, he could once again reach the potential we saw in his rookie season.
At some point in the next week, I will catch us all up on what is happening with all the other teams in the AFC West. However, it’s clear that in the AFC, Bill Belichick has the New England Patriots running way ahead of the pack. Take a look at their haul:
Patriots’ offseason haul thus far: WR Brandin Cooks, DE Kony Ealy, TE Dwayne Allen, CB Stephon Gilmore.

Perhaps if the Chiefs are going to play the “keeping up with the Joneses” game they should be thinking beyond the AFC West.
Brandin Cooks, Gronk, Edelman, Hogan, Mitchell, James White, Dion Lewis, Dwayne Allen. Good luck defending those pass catchers.

On the other hand, the Chiefs have their own arsenal including WR Albert Wilson. They’ve given him an original-round tender so if any other team signs him, it will cost them $1.797M but, if they don’t… can you say Super Bowl?
