As of last night, we still weren’t sure on the contract details, but they have come in this morning courtesy of ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The way general manager John Dorsey has managed to massage the salary cap in this instance is amazing. After the Eric Fisher signing, only an additional $500K in cap space was created. That doesn’t appear to be enough, in this instance, to give Foles $1.75M this year. And what about those second year numbers? A ceiling of $16M? Are you kidding me? This is quite obviously insurance in case Smith takes a huge turn for the worse and the Chiefs choose to part ways with him after the 2016 season.
And what does this mean for the roster configuration? As mentioned last night, there will have to be a corresponding roster move to make physical room for Foles on the roster as well as clear some money for him under the salary cap. Are the Chiefs really going to roll through camp with five QBs? Most reports have said Hogan has barely gotten any reps to this point. What would another QB, who is presumably coming in as the guaranteed backup, do to an already packed room?
This isn’t the last we’ve heard of this deal today, fellow Chiefs fans. What do you think of that contract? Are you okay with paying Foles that money in 2016 knowing he’s a capable backup who already has a decent understanding of the system? Sound off below and keep here for more info!
