No Worries:

Travis Kelce’s Comments

on Pro Football Talk

I’ve listened to the whole interview between PFT’s Mike Florio and Travis Kelce. I have read some other fan’s position on the interview and some have been unfavorable.

Sometimes Twitter can offer up-to-the-minute information about player’s status that’s useful to know but sometimes it can serve as a forum for fans over-reactive tendencies which isn’t always a good thing. I’ve done it myself so there’s no casting of stones here.

In the interview with Florio, Kelce was asked a legitimate question, one that Kelce even termed, “one of the best questions I’ve had” so let’s look at the totality of that part of the interview so we’re not taking one line out of it’s appropriate context:

Florio: One of the byproducts of being a great player is that you get opportunities to make money in other ways as you become a bigger star. You ever stop and think if you were playing in a bigger market you’d be a bigger star given what you do on the football field?

Kelce: That’s uh, that’s one of the best questions I’ve had. I’ve talked to my agent about that a lot and it is what it is, I mean you kind of play a part in terms of branching out into the TV world. But it’s kind of one of those things where you’re coming out of the draft, you’re coming out of the draft and you want to be as marketable as possible and um, that’s definitely one of the things about the NFL, you have big market team and small market teams, um, I kind of feel like the big market teams do have an advantage in terms of off the field money. Yeah, without a doubt, it makes all the sense in the world. I feel like when you have big-time businesses around that want to be apart of the sports community… and the athletic community… it’s a big advantage in the bigger markets. Without a doubt.

At the end of the interview with Kelce, Travis sounds off about the Madden curse and went like this:

Florio: Travis I know you’re busy, I’ll let you go, but let me ask you this: Rob Gronkowski, is on the cover of Madden… is that something you aspire to do or… do you believe in the curse?

Kelce: Haha, man, that’s a scary thing to talk about. I don’t even want to talk about it. I hope  Rob’s that strong and ready to take on the league but that’s something you always dream about since you were a kid about being on the cover of a video game as Overwatch, that you can learn to play at overwatchboostpros.com, but still it seems the curse is alive, it’s a scary thing

Travis Kelce admits what we all know already… Kansas City is a small market. I don’t think he would have signed a long-term deal if he didn’t want to be here.

Hmm, “I resigned because I love Kansas City and the Chiefs community. I wouldnt have signed if I thought I was better off somewhere else.” I’m sure Kelce’s omission of a dash in “resigned” caused many hearts to skip a dash when they first read it.  Clearly, he’s a happy camper in K.C.. Travis is certainly having the discussions he referred to with his agent — why wouldn’t he — but he’s not planning his exit from Kansas City. Now, I hope he gets his 5th “100 yards receiving day” in a row to make some history while the Chiefs whip the Titans in the freezing arctic AIR-rrowhead.

Goooooo Chiefs!!!!
