Off The Cuff: Bold Predictions

Off The Cuff: Bold Predictions

During this miserable bye week, I decided to cheer myself up with a few thoughts on the future for the Kansas City Chiefs. When it comes to predictions, bold is usually synonymous with wrong, but I won’t let that stop me from making some statements that will probably look ridiculous before too long.

Andy Reid Will Coach The Chiefs Until He Retires

Clark Hunt has done the coach-search before. He knows just how tough it is to find a winning coach in the NFL. Whether it be for profit or fear of the unknown, Andy Reid isn’t going to get fired without back to back losing seasons and he isn’t likely to do that.

K.C. Will Have a New Starting QB Next Year

Alex Smith is a good QB, probably the 12th best in the NFL, but he limits Chiefs offense and Reid was able to secure a QB he drafted in Nick Foles. Between Foles and Bray, one of them is going to win the starting job and Chiefs will likely trade away Smith. Reid expects consistent performances from his veteran starters and he’s not afraid to move on from a good QB, as he did with Donovan McNabb. If Chiefs do start a new QB and trade away Smith, expect Reid to bring in a veteran presence behind the starter, perhaps Michael Vick.

Andy Reid Will Win a Super Bowl

Andy Reid is a good coach and he has his irritating habits, but whatever it takes, Reid will get the job done. He might have to give up play-calling, but not long after the Chiefs get a QB who can throw the ball deep, their offense will become one of the more dangerous in the league.

Bob Sutton Will Retire in a Few Years

Bob Sutton is 65 years old. He’s done an okay job with the defense, but not so amazing that Chiefs will pressure him to avoid retirement. I don’t think K.C. will fire Sutton, but they won’t be terrified to let him move down to Florida either.

Chris Conely Will Be the #1 WR by 2018

Jeremy Maclin is a great WR, but Chris Conely has better physical tools. As his route running continues to improve and the Chiefs get a better QB, Conely will become a household name and a legit threat.

Tyreek Hill Will Have Over 500 Yards Next Year

Tyreek Hill is what DAT should be. He’s fast, agile and has the great ability to track the deep ball. More importantly, he’s tough, way tougher than you’d expect and if Chiefs get a deep slinging QB, like I expect them to, Hill will become a dangerous weapon that will only see more targets as time goes on.

What? That’s all crazy you say? Well, you may be right, I may be crazy, but let’s hope I’m the lunatic you’re looking for. The present might be murky, but the future is still coming up roses in my book. If you want to feel better about where the Chiefs are right now, take a little peak at Jacksonville. That’s the kind of trajectory the Chiefs probably would have had without Reid. Andy’s gonna get it figured out.

And those are my Sizzling Takes.
