Offensive Ineptitude Hasn’t Stopped this Team Yet,
Won’t Start This Week
I will take an ugly win over pretty win any day of the week. Good thing too because that is what the Kansas City Chiefs do, they win ugly. There is no pulling away early and putting the nail in the coffin, no shoot out possibilities and there is no total domination of the opponent. This is okay in my book, because there has only been 3 losses, including a playoff loss, in a little over a year hanging next to the Chiefs name and at the end of the day it’s the record that matters.
The team with the most points or yards isn’t guaranteed a playoff spot, the NFL MVP doesn’t get to bump out the team of his choice to make room for his squad. Coach of the Year means nothing if you are on the couch in January, touchdowns scored may get you in the Pro Bowl but not necessarily in the post season. Seeding isn’t determined by which team passes the national eye test the best or who has the most mentions on Twitter through the year. At the end of the day it comes down to records: Win, Loss, Tie.
Tomorrow should add to the Win column of the Chiefs record, but don’t expect it to be any different than what we have seen all season: it is going to be slow and at times frustrating to watch the offense. Don’t expect too much from that side of the ball unless they can get Spencer Ware going, and even then look for more of the flash plays made by the player, not the play calling. On defense, there are going to be times early that it looks like they are going to be in for a long day but they will get their act together as the game goes on. Once the D makes their adjustments (the ability to do so is something that caught me off guard this year) they should be in Winston’s face quite often which will set up the turnovers.
That is what this team has done to rise to the top this year: they figure out what you want to do and take it away. Once they get you off guard they send the heat and Dee Ford does what I said he would never be able to do. (I owe you an apology Mr. Ford, and it will be coming). Once the pressure has hit home a few times the QB, this week second-year man Winston, starts making poor decisions with the football. Players like Peters and Berry thrive on these poor choices and set our offense up with more opportunities to try to get Santos in range.
Final score this week: Bucs 16, Chiefs 17 in a game where Ford is the Defensive player of the game and Peters is the Offensive player of the game.
