Patrick Mahomes: the Magic is Not Gone

Laddie Morse

There were several times this past season that I thought the Patrick Mahomes Magic was gone. Boy oh boy, did I turn out to be wrong. Come playoff time, with a torching of the Miami Dolphins, the whipping of the Buffalo Bills, the stomping of the Baltimore Ravens, then the ultimate of out maneuvering the 49ers in the Super Bowl… Mahomes re-established himself as the best of the best at his position and left no doubt that the magic never left.

The situation in Miami is tenuous at best and their faith in Tua Tagovailoa is next to nil. While Josh Allen is head over heals better than Tua, we have yet to see him win a game that mattered over Mahomes. I truly believe Patrick Mahomes is inside of Lamar Jackson’s head and the Ravens will never be able to over come the obstacle known as Mahomes. There appears to be the same kind of head games at work with 49ers head coach, Kyle Shanahan, when it comes to Patrick Mahomes.

That my friends, is magic.

Mahomes has reached a point in his career where he’d have to be injured, and I mean more than having his leg hurt like it was in the 2022 playoffs which saw him win over the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, even though he was obviously hobbled. KNOCK ON WOOD THE SIZE OF GENERAL SHERMAN (the biggest tree in the world). No, Mahomes would have to be flat on his back and out of the game for another team to have a chance. I say, “A Chance” because it’s never a good idea to count Andy Reid out of a game. The combination of Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes is special beyond special. It’s –> especially special.

A few months ago, presumably around the time of the Raiders game in which the Chiefs lost on Christmas day, 14-to-20, some national pundits lost their faith in the Chiefs and Mahomes… either that or they needed something to talk about (0:36):

Never underdogs indeed. Here’s a look at Patrick Mahomes 2023 season highlights (6:18):

The Kansas City Chiefs go as the Patrick Mahomes led offense goes. When Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt was asked after the Super Bowl how he would entice HC Andy Reid to not retire, Hunt said he just reminds him that Patrick Mahomes is under contract for many more years, and I paraphrase. In the meantime, both GM Brett Veach and HC Andy Reid are getting new deals (2:38):

In the playoffs this year, the Chiefs came out firing. First, they beat the Dolphins in a cold weather game in Arrowhead:

Next, they traveled to Buffalo to take on the Bills and beat them, 27-to-24 in another WIDE RIGHT game (0:53):

Next, they went to Baltimore to take on the “Best Team in the NFL”… but L’Jarius Sneed saved the game with a Punch Out at the goal line:

The Chiefs used all the strength they could muster to force an overtime game in Super Bowl LVIII, then the 49ers failed to choose to kick the ball away in over time, even though they had that choice, giving K.C. what they wanted, four downs to win it if necessary, and it was. What was it? Magic time for Mahomes. Again (0:07).

Is Mahomes Magic gone? No, not on your life. However, his magic does seem to appear at just the right moments.

Always.
