Quoth the Raven, Nevermore: Chiefs Win 33-28!

Quoth the Raven, Nevermore: Chiefs Win 33-28! – It was a win. It was an ugly win, but a win nonetheless. I’ll talk only about the positives of the game, today.  I am, after all, still giddy from a hard fought win against a really, really good team.

You’ll get more breakdowns of the game in the days to come from ArrowheadOne writers who will also be breaking down the failures of the Chiefs in today’s win. Even as I write this, Paul Pulley, Ladner Morse, Ransom Hawthorne, David Perkins, and David Bell are looking at stats, second-guessing “too-safe” plays called by Chiefs head Coach Andy Reid, fretting over the gaps in our offensive line, and spotty, shoddy defense. They will be right and on the point with everything they pen. They can have it, as I’ll talk only about the positives.

As for me? I sit here basking in the glory of a most wonderful Chiefs victory. A win is a win is a win. On Sunday, the Chiefs were victorious and not only did they win, but they left no doubt who the best team in the NFL is. At the end of game day, there is only an L or a W and the Chiefs got the W.

Look, the Chiefs are now 3-0 with the best QB in the NFL, the most dynamic receiving corps in the league, despite the temporary loss of WR Tyreek Hill, and a defense that actually blitzes and holds themselves accountable for their failures. I dig that.

I don’t think that I’m alone when I thought it most disrespectful that the Ravens chose to go for it early in the game on fourth down. Not just once, either. It may have worked, but in the end they payed for it in the end. You can’t do things like that at Arrowhead!

I must admit that I feel almost foolish questioning the Chiefs running game earlier this week. Coach Reid obviously knows what he’s doing and the Chiefs ran for 140 yards in this game including a rushing TD, almost doubling their production from the previous two games.

Mahomes tossed no INTs again, finishing the game with 3 touchdown tosses, 374 yards passing, and a 132% passer rating.

Travis Kelce led our receiving corps with 7 catches for 89 yards.

Mecole Hardman, you are the man!

Believe it or not, our defense stepped up big-time, too. They recorded 3 sacks, 61 tackles, and held the Ravens when it counted. The 203 yards rushing against us, however, is cause for concern.

Luckily, Tyrann Mathieu came through for the Chiefs defense with his three pass deflections, his timely blitzes in the first half, and his near interception in the red zone in the fourth quarter. Fellow safety Juan Thornhill also played a solid game, gave Ravens QB Lamar Jackson reasons to pause when throwing his way.

However, it was DE Emmanuel Ogbah who ruled the day and handled business for the Chiefs defense with 1.5 sacks, 3 QB hits and a pass deflection.

Again, there are, without a doubt, issues which the Chiefs need to address this week before they face a Detroit Lions team feeling themselves after two consecutive wins. They will. As for now, if only for the day, let’s just enjoy this well-deserved victory by the best team in the NFL.

Worthless Award: Each game I review, I’ll issue an award. I’m not sure of the award name let alone what it’s given for, nor who it’s given to. However, it should be fun.

We present the “WTF Award” to Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker. Butker, normally a clutch kicker missed on his first extra point attempt on Sunday. As we won the game, it’s not a big deal, but “WTF?” After all, you do have the best placeholder in the NFL!
