Ramblings of a Rose: Chiefs In Week 5 – Good morning Chiefs Kingdom. Here are a few quick-hitters to whet your whistle prior to our Kansas City Chiefs prime time showdown with the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
Football Fodder
Juan Thornhill – So far in his brief NFL career, the rookie safety has 15 tackles (12 solo), no interceptions, and one pass defended.
Prediction: Thornhill gets his first pick this Sunday against the Colts.
Frank Clark – Chiefs fans need to get off of Frank Clark’s back about his lack of sacks as a Chief. He’s all-too-often double-teamed and even with that he’s recorded 9 tackles (2 for losses), 1 knocked down pass, and 2 QB hits.
Prediction: Clark gets his first sack this Sunday.
Honey Badger – Not sure how he does it, but Tyrann Mathieu seems to be everywhere on the field. Besides his sack last week, the Honey Badger has made 15 tackles and broken up three passes. Plus, his leadership in the defensive backfield is priceless as the Chiefs defense finds their identity.
Mecole Hardman – The rookie WR has hauled in 8 passes this year for 167 yards and 2 TDs. Add another touchdown this Sunday and an additional 100 yards.
Travis Kelce – Kelce has been great this year.
Prediction: This week, Kelce will have at least one TD, 100 yards and 8-10 catches.
Darwin Thompson – I realize that LeSean McCoy, Anthony Sherman, Damien Williams, and Darrel Williams are getting it done for us with 407 yards combined rushing (with some help from MVPat) so far, but I’d like to see Thompson get a few touches in the next few weeks. It’s purely selfish, but I want to see what D-Train’s got.
Patrick Mahomes and Offensive Line – while there has been some grumbling about the offensive line and pass production this season, Mahomes is the least-sacked QB in the NFL in 2019 with 1.9 sacks. At a close second is New England Patriots QB Tom Brady with 2 sacks.
Chiefs Red Zone Defense – Despite having the 2nd most red zone attempts in the NFL this year, the Chiefs are 12th in red zone defense (allowing a TD only 52.9% of the time in red zone).
Colts Don’t Punt – the Colts have only punted 13 times in 4 games, tied for 1st with the Cowboys.
Penalties – Chiefs are the 12th least penalized team in the NFL this season with 26 penalties for 251 yards. Six offensive holding, six defensive holding, one pass interference, and all others categorized as other. That means we have no false starts, no delay of games, no unnecessary roughness, no roughing the passer, and no personal fouls. That’s not bad. Our opponents this week, the Indianapolis Colts, are the least penalized team in the NFL (20 penalties for 149 yards).
Special Teams – Where are you guys at?
Highlight of the Week
This will be the most boring highlight I show this season. It is not of incredible players doing incredible things, rather it is of an incredible player inspiring his teammates to do incredible things.
Tweet of the Week
“Let’s see Patrick Mahomes when the deep ball isn’t hitting.”
“Let’s see Patrick Mahomes when his teammates literally can’t hold onto the football.”

Quote of the Week
Our quote comes from our own fearless, if history-challenged, head coach Andy Reid.
“Not all of Mozart’s paintings were perfect. The end result, though, is that sucker’s gonna sell for a million dollars.”
A “Rosey” Prediction
At Arrowhead, in front of the Kingdom, in prime time, replete in red on red, the Chiefs go berserk as Big Red takes the training wheels off this week. Final Score: Chiefs – 52, Colts – 21.
