Ramblings of a Rose: Chiefs in Week 6 – Hello, again, Chiefs Kingdom. As we shake off the stink of a surprising and disappointing loss to the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday, I present you my quick-hitters in advance of our matchup against the Houston Texans Sunday at noon.
Football Fodder
The Sky Is Not Falling: when I wrote about the Chiefs loss late last Sunday night/early Monday AM, I was still stinging from an unforeseen loss. Devastated by the impossibility that our Chiefs, led by our Mahomes could be anything less than both spectacular and victorious.
But, as Forrest Gump reminded us, Spit Happens. Sometimes the other team wins. Sunday night’s game was just such a scenario.
To put it in perspective, of the 24 games that Mahomes has started for the Chiefs, if our defense held the opposing team to just 19 points (as they did the Colts last Sunday), the Chiefs win that game. This includes Mahomes’ sole start in week 16 of the 2017 season when we beat the Denver Broncos 27-24.
Speaking of Chiefs Defense: I was much too hard on them in my Monday morning article following the Colts game. The defense held the Colts to their lowest number of points scored (tied with the Tennessee Titans – week 2) since we beat them 31-13 in last year’s division playoff game. The bottom line is that this is not a Bob Sutton defense and these Chiefs are a much better unit than last season. My sincerest apologies.
Patrick Mahomes: in a game that the Chiefs lost, he still put up decent numbers:
-
- 321 yards passing
- 1 touchdown
- 22 completions out of 39 attempts
- 91.9% passer rating
I remain steadfast in my belief that with Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs never truly lose… they just run out of time, is all.
Tyrann Mathieu: Congratulations to the Honey Badger on that sweet pick last week for 30 yards. Those four tackles were pretty nice, too!
#Playoftheweek is a simple one: Tyrann Mathieu is a stud.
The Chiefs have lacked a safety with instincts and ball skills for 3 seasons now, but finally have one.
1. Two-deep shell
2. Mathieu staredowns QB and gets the easy pickAgain, Mathieu has been a stud. Super happy pic.twitter.com/svMKWiae1Y

Plus, at least one of those tackles was special too:

Clueless NFL Pundits: for all of those clueless NFL talking heads worried about Mahomes losing his Mojo because of just one TD in two games:
Patrick Mahomes in:
2018 – Weeks 4 and 5 – 1 TD
2019 – Weeks 4 and 5 – 1 TD2018 – Patrick Mahomes total TDs – 50
2019 – Patrick Mahomes total TDs – ?Go sell stupid somewhere else please, Chiefs Kingdom ain't buyin'!#ChiefsKingdom #NFL100 #NFL #Chiefs @dai_sca @Laddiemorse

Chiefs Running Game: I’m not an NFL expert, nor do I play one on TV, but I am fairly certain that only 14 running plays in a game hampers a team’s ability to win said game. Also, it’s time that D-Train left the station!
Tyreek Hill: It’s estimated that there are only 7,500 cheetahs left in the world, but I sure would like to see one in Arrowhead on Sunday (note: to learn more or find out how you can help, please visit the cheetah.org).
Travis Kelce – not cool, dude. Not cool, at all.

Special Teams: I ask for the second week in a row, “Where are you guys at?”

Quote of the Week
“… I’m going to try to pump him up and have him ready on every single play because he can get open on every single play.” – Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes on TE Travis Kelce
A “Rosey” Prediction
Congratulations, Texans on scoring 50+ points in your victory against the Atlanta Falcons last week. Unfortunately for you, the Chiefs are 4-1, not 1-4 and we are first in our division, not last.
Final Score: Chiefs – 32, Texans – 24.
