After lunch at Q39 (awesome BBQ and great service), then a visit to the WW1 Museum, we have arrived and are in the early stages of tailgating here at the greatest stadium in earth.

Weather is beautiful. A sunny 65 degrees. Winds are perfect. Not chilling us to the bone, but carrying the sweet smells of barbecue across the lots. I have probably gained 5 pounds from the smells alone.

I am here with my two sons, one a guest writer here on Arrowhead One. It is an annual father son trip that I usually have made with only one. Now that they are both old enough we can make it an annual guys weekend.

The fans continue to fill the lot and setup camp for the pregame.

I am pretty sure, if there was a Tailgating SuperBowl, KC would be the dynasty by which all other tailgates would be measured.

Unless you witness the spectacle first hand, you really can’t understand the levels KC fans will go to for an awesome pregame. If they max out the time from gates open to kickoff, it is just 40 hours per year (regular season only, and that is if we don’t have a “home game” in London). That 40 is out of 8,760 possible. Less than .5% of the year.

There are modified and customized vehicles, barbecue pits, bars, tents, games, and seating areas. They choose areas of the parking lot and basically claim them (in a nice way) as where they camp.

To make all of this even better, they are nice fans. They share food and drink with pretty much anyone, even other fans. Pretty cool place.

Time to get back to our tailgate. More to come later, perhaps. But for now, there’s The Rub!

Update:

The sun is down and the lights are on!

Up-Update:

Just got to my seat to watch warmups as the Chiefs take the field.

Up-Up-Update:

First Charger drive a fail.  Ended with ERic Murray sacking Phillip Rivers.

Now for some Chiefs offense.

Not the best start.  Ended with that AS11 scramble. Looking like this might start with a defensive battle.
