The NFL Combine is taking place in Indianapolis, Indiana right now and will finish up tomorrow on Monday. Here’s the remaining schedule:
Sunday, March 5: Defensive linemen and linebackers
Monday, March 6: Defensive backs
In case you haven’t heard — or seen — yet, WR John Ross, from the University of Washington, has set a new 40-yard dash record on Saturday at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis by running it in an official 4.22 seconds. The record lasted for nine eyars and was previously held by Chris Johnson at 4.24 seconds. Here is a look at the new record,
As I expected, John Ross’ draft ranking could possibly change. Here’s what Bucky Brooks had to say about that,
As you may know, the Chiefs Pro Bowl CB Marcus Peters went to Washington, the same school as John Ross. Here’s what Peters had to say about Ross’ performance.
What stands out at the combine so far, besides John Ross incredible feat, is the group of tight ends. I posted this list yesterday but offer it again here for your consideration. It is a list of tight end in this year’s draft, all of whom may be gone by the end of the fifth round, if not before.
While I recognize that 40 times are not the be-all-end-all of evaluations, it does give you a perspective when comparing those times against players from combines in years past. The Chiefs Pro Bowl tight end Travis Kelce once ran a 4.61 40-yard dash. Three tight ends — that I know of — ran better times than Travis and two of them are shown below.
We’re all interested in how the offensive line prospects did. Here’s the breakdown on their combine performances.
OL Forrest Lamp has drawn a lot of attention leading up to the combine and he came through with shining colors: he ran a 4.99 40-yard dash and lifted 225 pounds in the bench press 34 times. As Mike Mayock often says, “He’s checking items off his checklist. Check. Check.”
So, what combine performances are you looking forward to most?
