Super Bowl Saturday: OPEN THREAD
Alright people, who are you cheering for in this one (please don’t say The Patriots)
How petty of me is it that deep down I really don't want the Chiefs former back up QB and OC to win a Super Bowl before the Chiefs do? I'm trying to talk myself into cheering for them over the Patriots but I just don't know if I can do it.

So, does Patrick Mahomes II have his head in the right place?
“The first and only thing Patrick Mahomes’ godfather and longtime MLB pitcher LaTroy Hawkins told him to do after hearing Alex Smith was traded? “Make sure you call Alex and thank him for everything he’s done for you.” – -Sports Daily KC
In an interview that Terez Paylor did with Clark Hunt this week, Clark gives away what might possibly be interpreted as a clue to how the Chiefs will be drafting this year or approaching free agency next month:
“A lot of the issues that we had this year defensively were about personnel and the lack of depth. We just didn’t have the depth we needed. We’re always gonna have injuries, right? And yes, losing Eric Berry in week one, that really hurts. But good teams figure out how to get past that, and the way you do that is having depth. I think at the end of the day, we just didn’t have enough depth.”
Plus, Clark Hunt addressed the cap situation in 2017:
“We were in a very tight cap situation last year, and it resulted in us having to part ways with some players we would have rather not parted ways with. We weren’t able to do much from a free-agent standpoint.”
Perhaps the most interesting subject Hunt covered was that of “rebuilding,”
“You don’t want to put yourself in a rebuilding mode, and certainly, as a two-time division winner, we’re not in a rebuilding mode, but we do have holes in the roster, at starting positions and backup positions, that we’ve got to fill, and I’m not sure you can do that intelligently in one year.”
Sounds like he’s on the same page I’m on… it’s going to take more than one offseason.
Update and response to all the donations to the Alex Smith Foundation: Smith writes, “We are very grateful and amazed.”

Very good "do your job" run defense snap by Fuller. Fills his gap, doesn't let Kamara get going. Big part of the stuff, even though he's not the initial tackler. pic.twitter.com/zxvnul7DwB
