The Chiefs Have a Shiny New Toy

The Chiefs Have a Shiny New Toy – The Chiefs have a shiny new toy in their 2019 Defense, a new DC and an almost complete overhaul of the roster. Tom Brady, threw for 348 yards and a touchdown against the Chiefs in last season’s AFC Championship game but… last Sunday he was sacked 3 times, went 19 of 36, for 169 yards, with 1 touchdown and an interception. The Chiefs defense also held them to 94 yards rushing after allowing 176 yards on the ground last January. They allowed 278 total yards at Foxboro after giving up 524 at 1 Arrowhead Drive. The Patriots were an impressive 13 of 19 on third downs in last years heartbreaker, but they went a measly 2 for 12 on third down and 1 for 3 on fourth down in Sundays rematch… so… which one was it: the system or the roster?

Can Reid Reach all the Pedals?

The Chiefs are at the top of the page in this 2019 season, second to only the Baltimore Ravens in First Half Scoring with an average of 17.3 points scored, but nose diving considerably in Second Half Scoring with 11.2 points scored. While the Chiefs aren’t the only team who’s scoring decreases from the first half to the second, they do stand atop the heap when you consider the huge 6.1 point margin from the first to second half… so… is this due to teams making better halftime adjustments or Andy tapping the brakes and coasting?

Now We’re Saints and Texans Fans?

If the playoffs were to begin today. The Chiefs would be paired up with the Pittsburgh Steelers in a Wildcard matchup. There are so many variables that could take place between now and December 29th but, one unknown in particular that has piqued my interest, is who will win that 6th seed if the Chiefs continue to hold on to the 3rd seed. One possibility is the emergence of the Red Hot Tennessee Titans , led by 7 year veteran and former 1st round pick in the 2012 NFL draft: Ryan Tannehill. With Tannehill at the helm, they are making one heck of a push. They match up with the Saints once and with the Texans twice over the final 3 weeks. For some reason or another that I cannot fathom, the less talented Tennessee Titans always seem to find a way to best the Kansas City Chiefs… so… are we Saints and Texan fans these next 3 weeks?

Is Sammy Invisible to Patrick?

In the two games Matt Moore started at the Quarterback position for the Chiefs, (a tough loss to the Green Bay Packers and an exciting upset of the Minnesota Vikings) Sammy Watkins had 12 receptions, same as Tyreek Hill, for 108 yards (6 receptions per game). In the following 4 games with Patrick Mahomes at the Quarterback position, Watkins again had 12 receptions but with an average of 3 receptions per game. To this point, I have always been in the mind set that Watkins lack of looks had to do with the play calling, but his number was called often under Moore and not so much under Mahome. He didn’t have a single reception in the Raider matchup a week and a half ago… so… is Patrick just not looking for Sammy?

No HITS on Patrick Playlist?

The San Francisco 49ers traded Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs back on February 27th of 2013. At the time it brought some stability to a franchise that had been floundering for some time…..but behind an average Offensive line, Alex grew happy feet…..and often looked to have tunnel vision and played scared, not seeing wide open receivers.  Then the Chiefs drafted Patrick Mahomes, and the kid seemed to possess phenomenal field vision, staying in the pocket long enough to scan the field and find open receivers… and it paid dividends to the tune of 50 passing TDs and an almost trip to the big dance. However, lately, this year, I’m starting to see similarities between Smith and Mahomes. Happy feet, missed open receivers, tunnel vision etc… so… do you think maybe our new QB is getting tired of being hit?

Is This the Year of the Chiefs?

With every new season, comes a new way for the Chiefs to get screwed over, whether it be a missed FG, an offsides penalty, a forward progress call, a 4th quarter meltdown, bad clock management or a coin toss…….I get nauseous thinking of all the short sticks the Chiefs have drawn over the 30 plus years that I’ve been a fan. However, I have to say, it was like a miracle on 32nd street watching the Patriots — in Foxboro mind you — get the short end of the refereeing stick… FOR ONCE! It almost feels like a perennial weight has been lifted with that one simple regular season game. Not the win necessarily (all though that was glorious) but, more the fact that it wasn’t the Chiefs losing this time to uncontrollable forces. Whether you believe in luck or not, somehow, some way, it seems that the Chiefs never land on the lucky side of a controversy… until now. I’m feeling lucky… so… what do you think guys, is this our year?
