The Chiefs Just Won the NFL Offseason – The Kansas City Chiefs may not have won Super Bowl LV, but they may have not only locked up Super Bowl LVI, but won the NFL offseason with their offseason moves. Chiefs GM, Brett Veach, has made a trade for Orlando Brown putting the cherry on top of an already very good offseason. The trade for Brown looks like this:
.
.
By giving up a first round pick this year, and then picking up the Ravens 2nd round pick, I won’t be at all surprised to see Veach trade up higher into the second round to get the prospect he really wants, but that’s another subject.
.
.
Fans who have been criticizing Brett Veach should consider what he’s done with the first round picks he’s had over the past 3-to-4 years.
.
.
To recap, Veach had used the Chiefs past five first round picks to bring four top shelf players to K.C.: Mahomes, Clark, CEH, and Brown. Not a bad record, especially when you throw in Jarran Reid this offseason, as well as Joe Thuney and Kyle Long.
.
Now, I admit, Veach has not been so great with some of his other moves or picks, like second rounder, Breeland Speaks, and late round pick: Khalil McKenzie, or I guess you could criticize the signings of WR Sammy Watkins (or his contract) or DE Alex Okafor, or even Anthony Hitchens (and his contract). However, when you take a look at the overall record of Brett Veach and his crew, the Chiefs are way ahead of he game. What game, you ask? How about the AFC Championship game, which has been held at Arrowhead for the past three years… or the Super Bowl game, having been to two straight, while things are looking good for a third straight SB as well.
.
Since entering the league, Orlando Brown hasn’t been good, he’s been great.
.
.
While we don’t yet know about how the Chiefs are going to pay LT Orlando Brown, he’s only 24 years old and has two Pro Bowls on his resume. It seems rare that a team within the same conference would give up a player of Brown’s magnitude, it’s just another feather in the cap of Brett Veach. Although Brown needs to be given a new contract within the next year, here’s what his salary looks like for now (from Sportrac.com):
.
.
Brown was drafted in the third round by the Ravens after being projected as a first round talent in 2018. Browns draft stock fell after a poor performance at the NFL Combine, but he has since proven all critics wrong. One man’s ceiling is another man’s floor and it looks like the Chiefs have their Left Tackle of the future, and more importantly, blind side protector for the best QB in the game, Patrick Mahomes.
