The Chiefs Mercurial Roster

Mercurial, meanings:

The Kansas City Chiefs… well, that football team from Kansas City who calls themselves the Chiefs. Not only have the Chiefs made a number of changes this week, since Alchemy Day on Tuesday, but they have a 30% new roster (i.e., The 70% Solution). Does that make cheering for them a challenge? I’ll have to leave that up to the Kingdom fans who follow them to decide that one.

It’s been an amazing offseason for the Chiefs. It started off with the re-signing of LB Drue Tranquill and it may — or may not — end up with the signing of another LB, Nick Bolton. One thing we have found out for sure is… who will be L’Jarius Sneed’s replacement: Jaylen Watson. Which I did expect all along.

Having found this out just yesterday, we kind of need to go back through the week’s moves to find out what has transpired?

On Tuesday, August 27th — Alchemy Day — the Chiefs whittled their roster down to 53 men from the 90 they had last week. That’s a total of 37 men they cut or parted ways with. First, let’s jump backwards one more day, to Monday.

It actually started on Monday, the 26th, when they re-signed WR JuJu Smith-Schuster.

Then, on Friday, the Chiefs made a curious move by waiving Eric Scott Jr. just two days after claiming him from the Cowboys. From an article at ArrowheadPride called, “The Chiefs made six roster moves on Friday.” John Dixon shared:

Dixon points out that Chukwuebuka Godrick doesn’t count against the 16 limit of Practice Squad player because he’s an IPPP designee. RB Emani Bailey’s Practice Squad contract was also terminated. Dixon goes on to estimate the Salary Cap left after all the Chiefs moves:

Also late on Friday, the Chiefs signed a former Philadelphia Eagles player, Marlon Tuipulotu. Tuipulotu was a 6th round pick by the Eagles in 2021.

Pete Sweeney is reporting that this is the “un-official” depth chart of the Chiefs as of Saturday, August 31:
