The Chiefs Top 10 Players I Hope Don’t Get Cut Tomorrow

Laddie Morse

It’s a day of infamy, when Kingdom fans look forward to hearing who has made the team while the many who get cut are not looking forward to hearing their name get called. Here’s my list of my Kansas City Chiefs players who I hope don’t get cut. BTW, it looks like the Chiefs will be waiting, for the msot part, to announce their cuts until the last possible moment, as Charles Goldman has said, “The Chiefs tend to take things down to the wire with cuts. Allows them ample time to explore all potential trades.

#59, DT, Joshua Kaindoh

Joshua Kaindoh, who was a 4th round pick by the Chiefs in 2021, had his best game on Saturday, and my patience with his progress has worn thin with him. However, I’d hate to see the Chiefs lose patience with him at this point.

.

#67, OG, Jerome Carvin

Jerome Carvin was a UDFA for the Chiefs this season and while K.C. looks stacked, I’m hoping they can bring him back to the Practice Squad. At 6-foot-5 and 307 lbs. he not only looks the part, but has had some good moments.

.

#44, LB, Cam Jones

… the former Indiana linebacker signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent. Jones’ deal includes a $15,000 signing bonus and a $135,000 base salary guarantee, per Tom Pelissero. K.C. is loaded at the LB so there may not be much hope of Cam Jones NOT getting cut. he Chiefs don’t throw away large sums of money like $135K without hopes that they’ve found a diamond in the rough. Here’s hoping he makes it back on the Practice Squad.

.

#71, NT, Danny Shelton

Danny Shelton is a huge Nose Tackle who was on the Chiefs Practice Squad last year and has already spent eight years in the NFL playing for four other teams and K.C. makes 5. He says he’s lost 12 pounds this offseason to get ready to make. arun at the Chiefs 53 man roster. If he can bust through and make the Chiefs roster, it will help eleviate the pain of losing Khalen Saunders, much as I though Keondre Coburn would do.

.

#72, OT, Jason Godrick

Jason “Chukwuebuka” Godrick came to the Chiefs through the International Player Pathway Program. He’s an athletic, 6-foot-5, 295 lbs. and has had his moments not only in training camo but in preseason games. From Chiefs Hive comes this:

.

“Jason Godrick, has taken 21 pass blocking snaps

this pre-season. He has not allowed a single pressure.”

.

#34, RB, Deneric Prince

Deneric Prince, a UDFA RB, came into the offseason with the Chiefs with an equal amount of hope that he could produce as we had in Isiah Pacheco when he was drafted in the 7th round last offseason. Over the last couple of games, that hope has waivered to a degree even though he had a good game against the Browns (12 touches for 45 rushing yards and 2 receptions for 8 yards). In the mean time, La’Michal Perine has had two standout games and asserted himself and likely has a stranglehold on the last RB position.

#49, TE, Matt Bushman

Matt Bushman has gotten the benefit of Jody Fortson going down with an injury for the third season in a row. In the game against the Browns Bushman had two (2) catches for 24 yards. With the Chiefs needing to keep an extra Tight End on the roster so he can fill in for the Fullback, a position HC Andy Reid has decided to not keep, it may mean Bushman at 6-foot-5, and 245 lbs. gets the nod.

.

#70, DT, Chris Williams

Chris Williams may not be known to may Kingdom fans but he brings a lot of heft to a position of need, especially if Chris Jones sits out the first half of the season. Williams was a UDFA signee with the Indianapolis Colts following the 2020 draft.

#94, DE, Malik Herring

Malik Herring has been a favorite of mine for the past couple of seasons. Why? Because he took a similar route to get to the Chiefs roster as did Justyn Ross… the IR route. Ron Kopp of ArrowheadPride said of Herring:

.

“As I’ve observed the Chiefs’ defensive line in St. Joseph, I have come away believing that Herring simply looks like he belongs on the team — that he should be part of the rotation. That might be because he made the initial roster in 2022 — but was only active for seven games, collecting six tackles and a fumble recovery in 88 snaps. Coming into this season, it is probably easy to overlook [Herring’s] development in favor of fresh-faced draft picks — or a veteran on a one-year deal,” he went on. “But in his third season with the Chiefs, the one-time undrafted free agent may just now be coming into his own.”

.

#82, WR, Ihmir Smith-Marsette

Ihmir Smith-Marsette [IS-M] was the Chiefs best wideout in the preseason games. I’d say Justyn Ross was the best WR at Training Camp but since then, it has been, Ihmir Smith-Marsette. Many believe he’ll be traded for a late round draft pick, at the least. I’d rather see him make the 53 man roster but that would not only mean keeping 7 Wide Receivers instead of 6 but it would also mean cutting another Wr that no one wants to see cut, or gone to another team. It looks like the Chiefs will be cutting a WR who will end up playing for another team, no matter what they do. That’s the very reason IS-M is my #1 Chiefs Top 10 player that I hope doesn’t get cut tomorrow.
