The Kansas City Chiefs All Decade Team: 2010-2019 – when you don’t win or go to a Super Bowl for 50 years, the quality of an All Decade team becomes a matter of slim pickin’s at many positions. This decade was partially no different. The past few years of players, dominate this All Decade team, and that should be expected because the Chiefs were 2-and-14 in 2012, the year before Andy Reid strolled into town and changed everything. Without further adieu: here’s the Kansas City Chiefs All Decade Team… as I see it.

 

QB Patrick Mahomes has to be the Chiefs #1 QB because of his 50 TDs & 5,000+ yards in 2018.

Mahomes looks like the next great QB in the NFL for the next decade and beyond.

 

QB Alex Smith changed the Chiefs culture at QB.

Smith should be credited with training PMII.

Smith is a winner with a 50-and-23 record, a .684 winning percentage as a Chiefs QB.

 

RB Jamaal Charles was the NFL all-time leader in yards per carry (ypc) as a K.C. Chiefs RB.

Charles was part of a long line of great Chiefs RBs.

 

On run #6, notice how JC begins to coast into the endzone at the 15 yard line.

 

RB Kareem Hunt led the NFL in rushing as a rookie.

Seth Keysor once said of Hunt, “No one in the NFL breaks tackles as well as Kareem Hunt.”

 

 

FB Anthony Sherman is one of the strongest RBs in the NFL. His ability as a blocker not only helps keep the Chiefs RBs from being mauled but when he’s in, he keeps Mahomes jersey clean. He’s also an undervalued and undeused asset.

 

TE Travis Kelce* is the best Tight End in football and has been for years now.

Kelce has four straight seasons of 1,000 plus yards receiving. Something no other human has ever done.

 

*Travis Kelce is the only TE on my list perhaps revealing an absence of tight end talent over the past decade… besides Travis that is.

 

WR Tyreek Hill is the NFL’s fastest man.

Hill has also become of a top five best WRs in the league as well. Maybe not in production, but when he has the ball in his hands, no one compares to him.

 

 

WR Dwayne Bowe was the Chiefs best WR for years and had no one else to help him on offense yet he put up 7,155 yards in a Chiefs uniform over an 8 year period.

Anyone remember this Dwayne Bowe circus catch?

WR Jeremy Maclin had one very good year in a Chiefs uniform gaining 1,088 yards in 2015.

 

 

 

OT Branden Albert was one of the Chiefs few assets in K.C. when Andy Reid took over in 2013.

Albert went to two Pro Bowls (2013 and 2015).

 

 

OT MItchell Schwartz is one of the best Offensvie Tackles the Chiefs have ever had.

Schwartz had been an All Pro in 2016, 2017 & 2018 and should have made it this year too.

 

OT Eric Fisher made his first Pro Bowl in 2018.

Fisher was the first pick in the 2013 draft and was Andy Reid’s first pick as the Chiefs HC.

 

 

IOL Rodney Hudson has been to 3 Pro Bowls: 2016, 2017 & 2019. Too bad none of those were as a Chiefs player. Still, he was one of the Chiefs best Interior Offensive Linemen over the past ten seasons.

 

 

IOL Mitch Morse was a very good Center for the Chiefs four years from 2015-to-2018, except for concussions

Morse left in the Spring of 2019 for the Buffalo Bills where he scored a big contract: 4 years for $44.5M.

 

IOL Jeff Allen was a solid Offensive Lineman playing in 58 games for the Chiefs over 6 different seasons. He never made a Pro Bowl and his inclusion here another indication that the Chiefs have had a sizable talent vacancy on the interior of their OL for years now.

 

DE/OLB Justin Houston nearly set an NFL single-season Sack Record in 2014 with 22.0 sacks.

Houston had 78.5 career sacks for K.C. over 8 seasons.

 

 

DE/OLB Tamba Hali is the Chiefs #2 all-time sack leader with 89.5 sacks (only 37 sacks behind D.T.).

Hali had a non-stop motor and was a durable and flexible player moving from DE of OLB during his time with K.C..

Hali was a top 100 player in the NFL just 3 years ago at #84.

 

DE Frank Clark has shown K.C. fans what he can do over the second half of this season recording 7 sacks with 11 QB hits in the past 8 games.

Clark is in the first year of a 5 year, $104M deal and at 26 years old, he’ll be around, and good, for awhile.

 

DT Dontari Poe was a dynamic force on the Chiefs DL for years, before he hurt his back and had to have it operated on. He was mammoth, 6-3 and 346 and made 2 Pro Bowls as a Chief and was well known for the “Hungry Pig” play, where he catches the ball on the wing and follows his blockers into the endzone. He also threw TD pass (below).

 

 

DT Chris Jones has been a consistent force for K.C. throughout his rookie contract.

Jones forte is getting to the QB and has 33.0 career sacks.

 

 

DT Allen Bailey played for the Chiefs for 8 straight seasons. He recorded 207 tackles and 19.5 sacks. Well known as one of the Three Musketeers on the DL.

His inclusion here may indicate a lack of top talent at this position in the past decade.

 

LB Derrick Johnson is the Chiefs all time tackles leader with 1,168 tackles. He is well liked and missed by many.

D.J. was fast and knew how to slip beyond blockers with regularity. Some would like to see him return to K.C. as a coach.

Anyone recall DJ’s hit on Titans QB Marcus Mariota… and the No Fumble call?

 

LB Josh Mauga had one very good season for K.C. with 104 tackles in 2014.

Once again, his inclusion here may indicate a lack of top talent at this position in this decade.

 

LB Jovan Belcher was the Chiefs second best LB in this decade with 257 tackles over 4 seasons… his tragic story aside…

… and again, his inclusion here may indicate a lack of top talent at this position in this decade.

 

CB Marcus Peters recorded 19 INTs in his 3 seasons with the Chiefs.

Peters has been to 3 Pro Bowls, 2 with K.C. and is loved by many in Chiefs KIngdom!

 

 

CB Brandon Flowers was with the Chiefs for 6 years making the Pro Bowl in his last year here, in 2013.

Flowers had 17 INTs while with the Chiefs.

 

 

CB Sean Smith was with the Chiefs for 3 seasons.

Smith started 44 games here, recording 5 INTs.

 

 

 

Safety Eric Berry was a transcendent individual who played Safety for the Chiefs. Berry had 14 INTs in 9 season in K.C. with 5 Pro Bowl & 3 of those were first team.

Berry was the NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 2015, overcoming Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

How about the 2-point INT by Eric Berry to win the game over Atlanta?

 

Safety Tyrann Mathieu made the Pro Bowl in 2015 and should have made it this season.

Known as the Honey Badger, Mathieu was a Heisman Trophy finalist at LSU.

 

 

Safety Quintin Demps played one year in K.C in 2013 with 4 INTs, 36 tackles and 9 passes defensed. I wish the Chiefs had re-signed him as he was one of the best Safeties the Chiefs have had in recent memory. Demps played in the NFL for 10 seasons.

 

Long Snappers – James Winchester has been with the Chiefs for five years and Thomas Gafford was with the Chiefs from 2008 to 2014, so… take your pick. It’s too hard to judge the efficacy of Long Snappers to choose only one, so here they are.

 

 

 

Punter Dustin Colquitt has been the Chiefs Punter since he was drafted by K.C. in the 3rd round of the 2015 NFL Draft. His spin on the ball, the opposite direction, (he’s left-footed) has not only caused many fumbles but he’s able to place the ball inside the ten yard line with regularity. Still.

 

Field Goal Kicker Harrison Butker scored 142 points for the 2017 season, ranking him first in Chiefs franchise history for most points by a kicker in a single season.

 

 

 

Kick Returner Tyreek Hill has been dynamic as a Kick Returner but no longer does much of that. Although, he could be asked to return a few in the playoffs coming up.

Hill’s career averages are: 27.4 per kick return, 12.4 on punt returns. He’s just plain dangerous with the ball in his hands.

It won’t surprise me at all to see Tyreek Hill returning punts in the playoffs.

 

There you have it. I’m not getting into the coaching except to say, we all know that Andy Reid has been head and shoulders better than what we had here previously. So, is there someone I left out? Or, is there someone I included that I should not have?
