The Last Week of Chiefs Mock Mondays:

A Doppelganger

In keeping with the theme I started with [this offseason], which is drafting with an Inside-Out perspective, I did my last two mocks of the season. Here I am showing that using two different prospect lists as a basis for player selection, I can trade back and get 5 picks that are very powerful. In the first case, I used DrafTek and in the second, I used Local Pundit and Chief’s fanatic, Nick Jacobs. Both drafts are exactly what the doctor orders and it covers a lot of ground. The first 5 picks in each Mock is where I think Brett Veach cuts the mustard and has 5 impact players — at the very least.

Judge for yourself but I used the draft profiles and inclinations of different sources to make the draft picks with the trade back being the only pre-requisite. In both cases I obtained offensive side of the ball help with a tool (or more) for Mahomes. I did not focus on a WR as a position of must resort to type of pick due to Tyreek Hill’s legal problems.

I took players when they fell in my lap such as in Case-1, obtaining RB David Montgomery. I was not intent on drafting a RB. In both cases I found a WR. In both cases I drafted to the OL. In both cases I took at least a Safety and/or CB and in both of those cases I believe I chose starters. In both mocks I pick up a top TE. I think Sternberger may be the most powerful TE pick in all of the first 6 players but Moreau has all the tools and comes to the NFL with a bunch to offer except pass catching credentials — he was not used that way at LSU but could have been. He is one of the two sleeper TEs in this draft that could totally surprise all of the NFL: observers, experts and pundits all.

Both Mocks yield at the very least, 3 players who can or would start, maybe 4. But all 5 of the first picks in each are going to be impact players. As you can see by the order of selection, i chose players based on where I thought they should be taken and whether they fit the profile of an immediate starter type player at best or a player with immediate impact  I don’t worry the grades given but in almost all cases using my own approach, I am selecting players who fit the Kansas City Chiefs needs.

The NFL Channel did a NFL Mock Draft yesterday. Here are the results. If Jeffery Simmons falls too the Chiefs at #29, I’d be thrilled.
