The Potential Careers of the Undead, or the, We Ain’t Dead Yet Bunch
by David Bell | April 30, 2019
The Kansas City Chiefs, like all other NFL teams, began signing Undrafted Free Agents(UDFA’s) after the draft ended (or before it ended). One of the confusion factors that occurs is that at the same time, invitations are issued to players to try out at the Rookie Mini-Camp which precedes the OTA’s.
By “Undead,” I mean these guys have a shot at proving the experts wrong and earning a spot to continue with the team by either by obtaining a UDFA Contract or being part of the team’s 90 man roster as the get into pre-season games and the final cuts. At that point, just before the season opener, the Teams will pare down to a 53 man Roster, or 63, if you will, as there are 10 men parked on the “practice squad” (PS).
Here (below) is a list of what I understand to be the players with UDFA contracts and invitees to this point. No official Chiefs Press info determines this list, so it is unofficial. Remain vigilant about this because every year there are statements made which stretch truth or do not account for the difference between a signed contract or minicamp camp invitee.
At some point over the next week, the Chiefs will provide official listings of both categories of camp invitees and UDFA’s (which may follow even later as the team actually determines who will attend OTA’s and Training camp after the minicamp(s). In 2018, more than 10 UDFA’s are still listed with the Chiefs Roster. Also keep in mind the PS from last year and the IR (Injured Reserve listed) players.
It’s common and this happens every year: the mix-up between who is actually a UDFA or a minicamp invitee.
Mini Camp Invitees: Players listed so far who may have contracts but, I don’t have a qualified statement that such is the case:
