The Training Camp Wars

What does your Arrowhead adventurer know about training camp?

Well as far as experience, I don’t have any more than many,

and much much less than some.

But what I do have is a knack for noticing details.

Watching “Hard Knocks” on HBO isn’t just a show for me.

Watching from the sidelines in St. Joseph isn’t just watching practice for me.

It’s sharing with the guys.

Sharing the pain they are going through.

Sharing the fear.

Sharing the disappointment,

the depression,

the joy.

When someone pulls off a shoestring pass,

I look at the face of his competition.

When someone drops a pass, I do the same.

Missed blocks, trips, interceptions, all tell me something.

And all help me enjoy the game from my 2nd row seats in the greatest NFL stadium in the world.

Some guys you see in training camp will never ever be on an NFL field again.

Some will be in kiosks at the mall.

Some will be insurance agents.

Some will be broke.

Some have even worse futures ahead.

What does this all mean?

Well, it means that maybe my little cheers,

congratulatory yells,

and don’t give ups

can make a difference in some of these guys lives.

Unless your at a level above the rest,

and few players are,

football is a constant daily, hourly, battle to keep your job.

This never leaves my mind when I am watching a game.
