Trade Mahomes NOW!

When is the best time to trade a player? While he is hot right? Is there any player in the NFL, NBA or MLB or MLS hotter than Pat Mahomes II right now?? NO! So, I say dump him while we can. It is the Patriot way, and who can argue with their success? Crazy you say? No, it is actually the smartest of bright thinking.

Look at the possibilities before you throw me under the bus and run me over everyday 24/7/365 for the next 5 years:

Trade Partner #1 – Arizona

Chiefs trade Pat for Patrick Peterson and the Cardinals next 7 #1 draft choices starting in 2019, then we draft Kyler Murray or skip Peterson and get their next 10 #1’s and still draft Murray #1.

Trade Partner #2 – New York Giants

Chiefs trade Pat for Saquon Barkley and the Giants next 7 #1 draft choices starting in 2019, then draft Dwayne Haskins or skip Barkley and get their next 10 #1’s and draft Haskins or Lock #1. Shoot, the Giants might as well throw in Eli as our new transition QB.

Trade Partner #3 – Tampa Bay

Chiefs trade Pat for the Bucs next 10 first rounders and for good measure 5 #3’s in even years

Trade Partner #4 – …….

(every other team in the NFC)

So, here’s the reason why:

PM2 is a known quantity and proven savior when compared to some unknown hopeful NFL star coming from the draft. He is only 23 and should be MVP every year for the next 10 years at a min-a-mum. So he is worth at least a #1 each and every year until he is 30 (thus 7 #1’s or 10 for good luck). Given these facts alone (along with allowing our trade partner to eliminate QB draft risk for 10 to 15 years thereafter), every team in the NFC should make this trade in a heartbeat!! And the best part is, we get to see Mahomes in the Super Bowl nearly every year anyway (without the high price tag), despite the ineptitude of front offices that might just screw up such a great deal.

Think of the endless intrigue and nauseating drama sportswriters and TV hosts will create spending hours every year talking about the “Mahomes versus his former team” match up in the Super Bowl! Why it almost guarantees LaCanfora a job for the next 15 years (OK that is little too far-fetched).

The value to the Chiefs is 2 first round draft picks for the next decade, providing 20 potential hit and misses at QB to replace Mahomes, or entirely replace every single current defensive starter in 5 years and every current offensive player the 5 years after that (or mix and match every other year).

We also dump Mahomes’ pending $200 million contract at $35 million a year (or more), so we gain a ton of future cap space for free agency over the next decade as well! And that does not even account for eliminating any future injury risk as well. Can you put a price tag on that? I think not.

How can we lose? How could our trade partners lose?

Think about that #1 rated defense we could have for 15 to 20 years (no more #31 ranked D for us by golly), and our offense, much more of the same. With Andy leading the way, we should have first rounders at every skill position including some on the offensive line. Our offense, even with an average to above average QB (think Alex Smith) could win at least 1 if not 13 Super Bowls during the next 15 years with that kind of a lineup! And with a free wheeling Brett Veach as GM, think of the trades and trade-downs he can make, knowing he is guaranteed a two or three new All-Pro every year! Shoot, the Chiefs might be in the Super Bowl for 20 years consecutive years!

Isn’t that what we have been dreaming of since 1970? A chance. Just a chance to win a Super Bowl? Well then how about a darn – near guarantee to win the Super Bowl every year for the next 15 to 20 years? Trading Pat now – is money in the bank, baby! And I have not even discussed our own second and third rounders!! That is another 20 highly talented players to add to the 20 first rounders we now have (or will soon draft). Gosh – even our punter, kicker and long snapper will be high draft picks. Dave Toub will have a heart attack just thinking about the possibilities!

Talk about depth – 40 players in the top 100 over the next 10 years!! Guaranteed, no less!! Think about it. No more mock drafts. We won’t care anymore with that many top choices. No more spending countless hours discussing trades. Bert and Laddie can talk about the weather in the PNW or simply the good ole days. Heck. Laddie might convert AO into a fishing website!

All-Pro’s at every position for the next 15 years (and beyond). Dream it and dream it big. Never been done before right? Not until we trade Mahomes. BOOM! Then it happens! And the Chiefs will go down as the best NFL franchise of ALL-TIME. The Chiefs – G.O.A.T. Say that in the same sentence 100 times. Finally. We can stick it to the Patriots forever with 10 straight, nay, do I dare say 15 straight Super Bowl victories. Kansas City will move to quickly rename the entire parade route – GOAT Drive.

So there you have it boys. A quick down and dirty, but what should be a highly regarded argument, to trade Mahomes now while the getting it good, and cement the Chiefs Super Bowl legacy for the next generation (and to make up for the past 40 years)! I am all in. Do it Veach. Do it and do it NOW!! What about you? What do you think? Oh, and one more thing (Columbo voice) “The best is ……. April Fools!!!” Gotcha! Trade Mahomes. How foolish! How silly of me!
