Ways to 6-and-0, Let me Count the Ways

Laddie Morse

All across this fine nation of ours, people who gather around the company water cooler are talking about the Kansas City Chiefs easy win over the San Francisco 49ers this past Sunday. For those who are Chiefs fans they are explaining the ways their Chiefs have arrived at the unblemished record of 6-and-0 and there may be as many tales about how their team has done that as there are people who are doing the explaining. Let dig into those ways these Chiefs have remained perfect.

Let’s not forget the Ravens game at the beginning of this season was won by a toe.

(8:09)

The final score was Chiefs 27 and the Ravens 20. The Chiefs looked like they were in the Ravens head from the beginning and the final score reflected that.

Also at Arrowhead Stadium… a place once called “Burrow-head” by Bengals players… this game was significant because the Bengals had beaten the Chiefs in the AFC Conference Championship a couple of years earlier and the result was in question. Even Bengals podcasters were realistic in that they weren’t sure how you beat the Chiefs (8:41):

They’re a better team???

After converting on a 4th-and-16 because of a Penalty to a Bengals defender, Harrison Butker kicked a field goal as time expired and K.C. won this game in a close, close call, 26-to-25.

Te Chiefs played thier first road game by traveling to Atlanta to take on the currently 4-and-3 Falcons. Here’s GMFB’s take on the game (7:58):

In another close game, the Chiefs came away with a 22-to-17 victory over the Falcons. All the talk is about Mahomes and Kelce not playing their best football yet, but it’s Nick Bolton who shoots through the line to tackle Falcons RB Bijan Robinson in the backfield to save the game. AND… of course there was plenty of talk about the penalty flag that wasn’t thrown on Bryan Cook for not turning his head around on a WR in the back of the end zone.

In a game won by K.C. over the Los Angeles Chargers 17-to-10, CBS Sports and Tony Romo talks about the Chiefs Championship DNA (5:56):

The CBS anchor points out that the last Chiefs loss was on Christmas Day of last year. Now, the Chiefs have won every game they’ve played since then and all but one of those was by one score or less.

The Chiefs returned Home for a game at Arrowhead Stadium and beat the Saints 26-to-13. This was the game that WR JuJu Smith-Schuster broke out and had 130 yards receiving. Here, Danan Hughes breaks down a long yards after catch play when JuJu Smith-Schuster crosses the field and outruns Saints Safety Tyrann Mathieu who slipped (2:05):

On Sunday afternoon, the Chiefs traveled to Levi’s Stadium to take on the 49ers. The game was billed as a rematch of Super Bowl LVIII but with some many players out for both teams it hardly felt like a rematch. The Chiefs suffered another loss in DB Jaylen Watson:

As soon as we get more information about Watson’s ankle we’ll give it to you. Here’s a video I saw on Monday evening called: “Chiefs lose 2 KEY players to injury following win over Niners” (1:22):

How about some good news on the injury front?

The Chiefs doubled up on the Saints and nearly did the same to the 49ers by winning 28-to-18. In between those games K.C. rested because of the Bye Week. Andy Reid now stands at 24-and-4 following a regular season Bye Week.
