“With Picks 58 & 63, I Hope the Chiefs Pick___”

Some ArrowheadOne writers have weighed in on the Kansas City Chiefs picks for tonight. This is not so much a prediction, or a mock, as it is a wish list. Here then is “”With Picks 58 & 63, I Hope the Chiefs Pick___”…

I would like to see the Chiefs to draft Quintin Meinerz at pick #58. While he might not be a starter immediately, he very well could be later in the season. He has long term potential to be a starting center needed for years to come. I would like to see them draft TE Tommy Tremble with selection #63. I love his potential to be the triple threat offensive option that Andy Reid has desired for several years. He fills the roster at four different positions, TE, FB, HB, and Special Teams. They need an edge rusher, but there will not be any quality choices at these slots.

With picks 58 and 63, I hope the Chiefs use one of those 2 picks to select Gregory Rousseau (Edge, Miami), and use the other pick to trade back into the 3rd Round and select either Nick Bolton (LB, Missouri) or Jabril Cox (LB, LSU). One of the greatest benefits of the Orlando Brown acquisition is that the Chiefs no longer have a desperate/glaring need that absolutely must be addressed in the 1st or 2nd round. However, there are still positions that need to be addressed. Among those are an effective pass rusher to book end Frank Clark and a solid coverage LB. Alternatively, they could also choose to look for an X receiver and/or a center in this range, but ultimately, I don’t see Brett Veach sticking with what is currently a huge gap between picks 63 and 145.

The draft is underway, Chiefs Kingdom! I am so excited to be watching this year’s draft with everything Brett Veach has done. A certain level of calm comes over you when your favorite team does not have a huge hole to fill. Veach now has two picks in the second round, #58 and #63. If I were the GM for my beloved Chiefs, I would want to pick two players: Quinn Meinerz and Tommy Tremble. Meinerz would make the offensive line young and have the potential to be dominant for Patrick Mahomes. We have all seen what Mahomes can do with average protection on the interior. An interior of Thuney, Meinerz, and LDT/Long, could provide him incredible time. Imagine a world where he can sit and assess the field, waiting for routes to progress. Speaking of routes, Tommy Tremble was an underused talent at Notre Dame. Travis Kelce is all but assuredly a Hall of Famer, but Blake Bell and Nick Keizer are his backups. Fans have been clamoring for a second tight end since Demetrius Harris left after the 2018 season. Tremble is super talented, and it would be exciting to see what Andy Reid could do with him. A bonus would be giving Kelce some reps off now and then, hopefully extending his stellar career. Regardless, I am excited to see what Veach does to make this team better!

I am quite dumbfounded about why the various observers, pundits, analysts and NFL experts deviate so greatly from what Brett Veach informed us were going to be the focus of his efforts in his first presser of he offseason, which were three positions: DL, OL and LB. If you see this, then Mr. Veach has checked off two boxes: OL and DL. He may then devise a new priority list which might still include a DE but of the three, it appears to me, or is at least logical to me that the remaining category is LB. Or you could perhaps add LB and DE. I would move CB and WR to the fore at this point. At any rate, Baron Browning would be my choice at LB. One of my primary targets, Jamin Davis has already been selected and he was a round 1 surprise to many, but not to me. As it stands? Browning is next and I have 3 more worthy picks should he be taken in front of us. Next up?I would need to decide if a DE is still on his task list. If so, it is the single position on the front four to resolve. Many very good players have been selected already, but I can see that Carlos Basham remains and might drop into our range and he would benefit the pass rush greatly, completing the retooling of the front 4. Many picks will be made in front of KC in round two but the meat of  the draft might still be there for both positions, hence my two selections.

I”d most like see the Chiefs take a LB at #58 and the one that comes to mind is Baron Browning out of Ohio State. Standing, 6-foot-3 and weighing in at 248 lbs.. Browning plays with intensity and has instincts. He was a five-star recruit out of Texas, the home of high school football. He was a finalist last year for the Dick Butkus Award given annually to the best collegiate LB in the country. He’s played in four different post-season bowl games and has experience playing both inside and outside LB positions. For pick #63, I’d like to see WR Dyami Brown taken to fill part of the Sammy X role. Brown is 6-foot-1 and 195 lbs. and has 4.44 speed… with wiggle. I mean, he has some moves that allow him to get deep and those deep routes he runs include a double-move which he can use to set up some shorter routes and catches. He’s be a very good choice and had over 1,000 yards receiving in each of the past two seasons. Browning and Brown… and I’d be tickled pink.

Let us know who you’d like the see the Chiefs focus in on.
