Would You, Could You,
Chiefs Fans? 1.30.19

Like any other fan at ArrowheadOne, I dream dreams for the Chiefs of free agent super signing sessions and offseason dream drafts coming true simply because I once wished upon a star. I also daydream of dominating defensive designs dancing in my head — I know, “Dream on” — producing a plethora of endless little zeros followed by… more zeros.
Yes, I have spent a lot of time in the land of “What if?” Like, I used to think about… what if the Chiefs hadn’t drafted Ryan Sims in 2002… they could have had 7 time Pro Bowler Dwight Freeney… and, instead of Bernard Pollard… they could have had RB Maurice Jones-Drew . So, let’s take a look at some moves the Chiefs could make this offseason… and of course… most importantly… whether or not you would like these moves.
Would You Could You… draft TE Noah Fant in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft? Noah Fant is the talented tight end from Iowa. Many are hoping the Chiefs take more defensive help early in this draft because, well, the defense needs help. However, several times, recently, when doing some online mocks, Noah Fant has shown up as “Available” at pick 29. Consequently, I’ve spent time looking at his game tape. At 6-foot-5 and 241 (and I’m not sure he’s really that big) he offers an athletic and imposing body for that position. CBSSports has him listed as their 22nd best prospect and DrafTek has him at #15 (but WalterFootball ranks him as the 3rd best TE). When considering the Chiefs #2 TE (Demetrius Harris)… and considering the desire of And Reid to run his two-tight-end offensive sets… adn knowing what a red zone threat Fant is… I thought Fant could be that other piece to the offense that keeps it cooking when a good defense takes all the other offensive options away.
Take a look at some of Fants’ moves:
Since Robby took my dude…. I've gotta go his teammate in Noah Fant at 2.04. #DHHRookieMock @ETurnerFF_PT is up! pic.twitter.com/mlF76DOT5Q

Now that @nrfant has declared for the NFL Draft, let's take a look back at his career with @HawkeyeFootball. #TBT pic.twitter.com/rpVUVKGbYD

Would You, Could You… re-sign Kareem Hunt under any circumstances? If Hunt has done the necessary rehab work and comes back to apologize to Andy Reid and Clark Hunt and Chiefs Kingdom for lying about his involvement in the event which witnessed him kicking a female… would you… could you… take him back? This is a question for you as a Chiefs fan. The only way Kareem Hunt returns to the team is if he goes through all those steps mentioned above… so it would then come down to you as a Chiefs fan. In that case… would you, could you, accept his return to the team? If other teams are going to pursue him, why wouldn’t he be open to a return to the Chiefs? It’s obvious that the Chiefs need him, or someone like him, but that shouldn’t be the reason for his return. If he makes genuine amends, wouldn’t you want to be a part of his story. We all like happy endings… right?
Would You, Could You… draft a WR who is 5-foot-9 in this draft? When I recently came across WR/KR Greg Dortch I couldn’t believe my eyes at first… I thought I was watching the next Tyreek Hill.. then I thought I was having a hallucination of Dante Hall. That’s right, Greg Dortch is that good. If you don’t believe me then you’ll want to check out his highlight tape below. Dortch may be small in size, but he’s a big playmaker for sure. The idea that the Chiefs offense could improve this year is mind numbing, but you’ll get that vibe from watching Dortch torch the competition. His jab-step is one of the best I’ve seen since Barry Sanders laced em up. No. Really! [Watch his vids below then tell me if I’m wrong about the Sanders comment]. Dortch is twitchy-quick. He’s not as fast as Tyreek Hill but he’s got such great lateral speed and quickness that it makes it hard to get your hands on him even when he’s right in front of you. The first video below is short and has some coaches and teammates talking about him. If you watch the first vid and have decided you can’t get enough of him (like me) then the second video is over 11 minutes long. If you don’t want to do that whole video but would like to see some of his best moves, go to 4:06 of the second video to get a good idea of his ability to change directions. After watching him… I’m now a Greg Dortch fan and will be hoping beyond hope that he ends up in red and gold.
Would You, Could You… see Derrick Johnson hired as an interim ILB coach or a coach in training? He could have a lot of experience to share with the Chiefs current set of young ILBs. Some fans have a hard time with DJ because he signed with the Oakland Raiders — the Chiefs hated rival — during the last offseason. However, Raiders coach Jon Gruden cut DJ in mid-season so there’s that. I heard that Steve Spagnuolo will be wanting to hire all new coaches so DJ could perhaps serve as an understudy to one of the new ILB coaches because both of the Linebacker coaches the Chiefs employed last year have already signed with other teams. I always thought the way DJ was able to slip around, or under blockers on the way to the runner was magic. Maybe he could teach some of that magic to our current ILB corp.
