Wildcard Weekend Game Thread:

Oakland v Houston

Wildcard Weekend is finally here and Chiefs fans are excited for one big reason: they’re not part of it. Well, not directly anyway. All we can do is sit back and hibernate while other teams eats each other to death. I guess we could call it the “NFLs Cannibal Weekend” but that would likely scare fans away and commissioner Roger Goodell is having enough trouble putting fan’s fanny’s in front of boob-tubes as it is… that is, if it wasn’t for the Kansas City Chiefs, whose game against the Broncos two weeks ago drew well.

Well, Saturday’s game is all about the Oakland Raiders playing in Houston against the Texans. With rookie Connor Cook starting because the Raiders starter Derek Carr and backup Matt McGlion are both out, Oakland will be challenged to create TD’s offensively. The Texans are number one in total defense and should be able to hold the Cook led Raiders to two or less TDs.

On the other side of the fence, the Texans offense will be starting Brock Osweiler who played so poorly this year that he was benched but gets the starting nod here because their current starter Tom Savage has been ruled out and is in the NFL’s concussion protocol. While the Oakland Raiders are ranked 26th in the NFL in total defense, they should have little to defend against and also be able to hold the Texans to two TDs or less.

So, this will not be a “Slug-fest” but instead, you could call it an Ugh-fest” and not because they’re going to be wearing Ugg Shoes. Although, that’s the one thing that could make this game interesting. What will be interesting to Chiefs fans… is the outcome. Next week, the Chiefs could host either, the Steelers, the Raiders or the Texans… so watching this game between the Raiders and the Texans to get a feel for how each team is playing should interest even the casual Chiefs fan. Gametime is at 3.35 CT.

My prediction for this game: Raiders 16, Texans13.
