Can’t be Moore Happy: Chiefs Have a Defense – Sure. We lost. At home. Again, but I am not mad, not only do we have a defense (finally), we also have Moore. Last week against the Broncos, coming in cold, Kansas City Chiefs backup quarterback came through in fine fashion. As Chiefs HC Andy Reid said of Moore, “He’s got ice water in his veins. He doesn’t flinch.”
Moore did not last week in a win, nor did he this week with a loss. The journeyman backup QB, sometime Jr. High School football coach, went play for play against future Hall-of-Famer Green Bay Packer quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but came up on the wrong side of the score by a single possession. It was not his fault, nor was it the fault of our defense.
Might sound strange, but tonight gave me a lot more confidence in the #Chiefs in the big picture.

Popular opinion or not, I think the catalyst for our loss was because of veteran Kansas City Chiefs running back LeSean McCoy. Carrying the football like a loaf of bread, he fumbled (surprise!) at the most inopportune time in the third quarter, 1st and 10 at the KC 25 and the score tied at 17-17, McCoy fumbled, and then unbeknownst to us, the game was over.
Running backs get paid for many things. Blocking. Gaining yardage. Catching screen passes… but, above all, to never, ever lay the ball on the carpet. Yet McCoy did, gifting the Packers a nice big, early Christmas present.
The Chiefs fall 31-24 in game almost no one expected them to win without Patrick Mahomes and five other starters. This game was winnable, but the Shady fumble and some conservative play calling late cost KC.

Sure, we may have been able to comeback from that… had we been playing with our six starters (who were MIA)… but, no matter how good a team is, they cannot overcome mistakes like that… when the team is already decimated by injuries. Three on offense, and three on defense, means that we were playing a nationally televised football game at just a hair above 70% full-strength.
I understand that good football teams must overcome injuries to their starters. I also understand that good teams must be able to come back from behind when down. The Chiefs did that. However, even the best teams cannot overcome boneheaded rookie plays by veteran stars to whom we look for greatness in the face of adversity.

Another Chief who made big time plays was rookie Mecole Hardman:

Yet, with McCoy’s fumble, we got adversity in the face of greatness, instead. In a game, where the Chiefs defense played great, and where the backup QB, one season removed from the NFL, played great, LeSean McCoy cost us last night’s game.
However, it happens. Last night’s loss, is a loss that I, as a Chiefs fan, am quite proud of. This team is who I thought they were when the season began. We are not an average/good team with a great QB. Rather… we are a good/great team with a great QB (not to mention a pretty good backup QB).

Look, the game last night could have gone in our favor had “Little-Boy” McCoy not dropped the bread, or if Aaron Rodgers had not summoned his “inner-Mahomes” and made those two incredible throws. Chiefs Kingdom has many reasons to be proud. Moore had a good night against a great team. Our backup QB was 24 for 36 for 267 yards, no INTs, and 2 TDs. Moore’s passer rating was 107.1%. You can’t really ask for more.
Despite being on the field for over half of the game (33:13), the Chiefs defense recorded 5 sacks for 49 yards along with twelve QB hits. They held the division leaders, of the (arguably) toughest division in football, to 374 total yards of offense… while the Chiefs offense almost matched them with 337 total yards offense.
We all need to remember this was the B-Team Chiefs! Im proud of there effort. In the long haul we will have better overall Team play going forward.

Chiefs fans, we cannot only play with the big boys… with our six starters back, we can beat them. However, at the end of the night, it was a loss. In all honesty, the better team won but the Chiefs are still two games up in the AFC West, in the win column.
The Chiefs defense looked great… our backup QB played better than 15 percent of NFL starting QBs in week 8, but we got beat by a better team, and not by much. I have to believe that if the Chiefs had another shot to get it in the end zone there at the end, they would have.
Rodgers abused Chiefs LBs in this game and they continued to let them. O’Daniel is the only Lb on this team that can cover RBs it seems

However, I digress. Congratulations to the Packers. Now onto the Vikings.
My parting thoughts:
-
- Great job Matt Moore… you were the man tonight!
- Great job Chiefs defense, and DC Steve Spagnola!
- Mecole Hardman just, Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! Love you as a Chief!
- LeSean McCoy, go to your room and no dessert for you tonight. In fact, I don’t even want to look at you right now (you’re looking kinda “Shady”).
- Tyreek Hill, you are a straight-up, baller!
- Travis Kelce, likewise.
Travis Kelce's touchdown grab earlier was the 450th catch of his career, doing so in just 88 games.
He's the fastest tight end in NFL history to reach that mark.

It was only a game, but one we came (oh so) close to winning. Spilled milk. Water under the bridge… and all of those nonsensical idioms. Next week is Vikings Week. With or without Mahomes, I’m ready. In my defense, this week gave me much Moore of a reason to be optimistic.
