If the Chiefs Aren’t Rebuilding, What Do You Call it?

If the Kansas City Chiefs aren’t in a “rebuilding” mode, then what should we call this? Two tears ago only one offensive lineman besides Eric Fisher was in place and that would be Zach Fulton who filled in for rookie Parker Ehinger. Yes, the Chiefs have the same quarterback as two years ago but their star running back Jamaal Charles may be done in Kansas City if not for good. I know it seems like a century ago but it was on March 12th two years ago that the Chiefs released their #1 wide receiver Dwayne Bowe and signed Jeremy Maclin to a five-year 55M deal.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Chiefs have re[placed both of their starting cornerbacks. Safety has been a carousel but Husain Abdullah who was the first player of the Jon Dorsey-Andy Reid era retired. Inside linebacker has been an Emergency Room call center and the outside linebacker position hasn’t been much different.

Now, there is the possibility that both of the Chiefs Pro Bowl starting Safety and Defensive tackle will no longer be with the team in September.

I don’t know if there is an official number of turnovers in any team’s roster that means they are in rebuilding mode… but it appears to me that the Chiefs are as close as you can get without everyone talking about it.

From USA Today,

“Does Kansas City need a shakeup to reach the next level? Winning the AFC West and 10 of their final 12 games made for impressive accomplishments, but the team needs more than do-everything threat to break an Alex Smith-led offense out of its methodical tendencies. There’s impressive young talent with Travis Kelce and Dee Ford in the fold. But keeping both safety Eric Berry and defensive tackle Dontari Poe could prove difficult, and a tough call has to be made on whether running back Jamaal Charles returns.”

What do you think? How many more changes to the roster before it’s officially called rebuilding?
