Chiefs at Bills: The Divisional Round Matchup

Laddie Morse

Well, the rubber meets the road this coming Sunday when the Kansas City Chiefs travel to play the Buffalo Bills in Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, upstate New York, on Sunday, January 21 at 5:30 PM CST. Yes, this will be the first time since that Patrick Mahomes has led the Chiefs to a playoff game which isn’t being hosted at Arrowhead Stadium. Now, theres’ still an outside chance the Chiefs could host the AFC Championship, but that will take an act of God (if you believe in that sort of thing). Here’s the AFC Playoff picture as it stands right now:

The #1 seed, Baltimore Ravens are hosting the #4 seed Houston Texans this weekend at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, MD, at 4:30 PM EST (that’s Eastern Standard Time). The #2 seed Buffalo Bills will host the #3 seed Kansas City Chiefs and if for some reason the Texans beat the Ravens and the Chiefs beat the Bills on their home soil… the AFC Championship game would once again be played at Arrowhead Stadium the following weekend.

I’m shocked by the Cowboys loss and the way the Eagles played as well (I’m sure the Eagles 32-to-9 drubbing by the Bucs is not what they planned for). Sure, I thought the Packers had a win in them, but I didn’t expect the 48-to-32 thrashing they gave the Cowboys either. Also, I had heard rumors that Jerry Jones might be looking for a reason to cut ties with HC Mike McCarthy so he could hire Bill Belichick. I just think that would be a huge mistake. Another mistake on Jerry Jones part. He is no General Manager and he needs to hire a good one… but that means firing himself and that’s just not going to happen.

I don’t think Patrick Mahomes is going to have troubles on the road next weekend. Why? He’s only lost two games on the road this season. One to division rival Broncos and one to the upstart Packers in Lambeau. Aside from those road losses, he’s been pretty good. In an article by Jared Dubin called, “Patrick Mahomes set to do something he’s never done in postseason career” he said:

Of course, those games were played at Home, but with Mahomes being a good cold weather QB, and the ascendence of Rashee Rice and Isiah Pacheco as well, K.C. looks to move on once again.

Ryan Miller wrote a piece called, “Taylor Swift could be coming to Buffalo” in which he says:

I like the attitude and take of Flippin Chiefs:

The real playoffs begin this coming weekend. The Chiefs vs. the Bills is just exactly what we’ve all been waiting to see.

It is worth noting that the Bills played today [Monday] while K.C. has been resting the past two days. More rest at this time of the year is always a welcome advantage for players who have had a long season with opponents banging on them.

Go Chiefs!
