Chiefs: Brett Veach Pre-draft Presser

Yesterday, the Kansas City Chiefs General Manager had his annual pre-draft Press Conference with local media over zoom. Local media included: Nick Jacobs, Matt Derrick, Pete Sweeney, Harold R. Kuntz, Matt McMullen, and Soren Petro among others. Here are some highlights of that meeting.

One of the local media asked Brett Veach how many prospects he had on his board. Veach replied that he knew someone would ask that question and(0:55):

Veach was asked if he could envision himself going up to the top 10 or 15 to take a non-quarterback and here’s what he said, with a snarky grin I might add. (1:21):

Veach addressed the idea that the 4th, 5th, and 6th round picks of this draft will have older players because of the new college NIL rules:

Although I watched this whole zoom media event… more than 25 minutes worth… I found the Pre-draft Press Conference to be nearly useless. Telling us that OL, WR, and CB is a hot spot for this draft is something we already knew. Telling us many things we already knew was… nearly useless, IMHO. Although it’s nice to know the number of prospects on his board is sitting at 221, that just means there are many, many more prospects in this draft that have a chance of becoming Chiefs. Plus, while I recall that number being much lower in previous years, it’s not really helpful to know that more prospects could possibly become Chiefs.

Not sure I believe Veach when he says the Rashee Rice situation doesn’t impact his draft decisions when he’s already said that their biggest needs include WR.
