Chiefs Headliners: 01-04-24

It’ hard to believe it, but time has slipped us by and now it’s the season for thinking about the next Lombardi trophy. Super Bowl Trophy LIX. First, let’s take care of some Kansas City Chiefs who have been in the headlines this past week or so.

Many Kansas City Chiefs fans of the Kingdom want to know what’s going on with WR Rashee Rice. Around 3AM on Saturday night, a car owned by Rice and another vehicle were in an automobile accident — involving six cars including a Corvette and a Lamborghini — near Lover’s Lane in Dallas. Here’s some TMZ dash cam footage that has surfaced of the accident (0:30):

Rashee Rice was not hospitalized afterwords so we don’t know if he was actually in this accident, However, since he hasn’t come forward it seems more and more likely that he was involved. Here’s a TMZ picture showing the people who walked away from the accident:

There are those on Twitter who believe that the man in the burgundy cap on is Rashee Rice. Until he reports to the police we have no idea yet of his involvement. Rice is being sought after by Dallas police as a driver of one of these vehicles because he is identified as an owner.

It’s been a week since it was announced that L’Jarius Sneed was traded from the Kansas city Chiefs to the Tennessee Titans. So what has been the holdup since that time? Well, for one, Sneed had to pass a physical and with his knee that has been reported to be in poor condition… the trade could not be approved by the Titans, and ultimately the league. However, on Friday, the trade became final with the Titans and the NFL.

In an article for the tennesseetitans.com written by Jim Wyatt called, “It’s Official: Titans Acquire Chiefs Cornerback L’Jarius Sneed Via Trade” he confirms that the trade is final. The terms of the trade are:

Matt McMullen of chiefs.com confirmed it as well:

WR Marquise “Hollywood” Brown has already been in Texas working out with QB Patrick Mahomes. Before that he was at Arrowhead checking out the facility.

Even if Rashee Rice loses some time this year due to a possible suspension (from his car accident), Brown should be able to pick up the slack. On top of that, everyone and their grandma are predicting that the Chiefs will take a WR, maybe two, in the NFL Draft coming up later this month. Brown signed an $11 M deal with the Chiefs assuming he will hit all of the target incentives of the contract. If it’s obvious early on that Hollywood is a star in the Chiefs system, my hope is that Veach will reach out to his representatives and make plans to keep him in K.C. for another few years (Hollywood will turn 27 in June). He had his best year in 2021 with the Baltimore Ravens. Here are some of his best plays that year (2:57):

David Bell wrote a great pice for ArrowheadOne.com called, “The Chiefs Best Draft Fits Are: _____, _____.” just yesterday. Check it out if you haven’t already, He says the Chiefs greatest needs are:

So, Left Offensive Tackle, Wide Receiver and Offensive Guard are job one for Mr. Veach. I couldn’t agree more. Please let us know if you can think of another need that greater than these three. I’m assuming Veach and crew will make sure to sign or draft one of each of these. Preferably in the first three rounds. Some Kingdom fans think the Chiefs must draft a rookie LOT:

That tweet was the perfect lead-in to the NFL Draft. Since we already know that GM Brett Veach doesn’t like to enter draft weekend with any apparent needs showing, the team still has needs. All teams do. So, even if you’re a fan of another team, realize that your GM, or whoever is pulling the trigger on your draft picks, is operating from a BPA — Best Player Available — standpoint in the first two rounds, maybe even longer, and he doesn’t want to get caught with his pants down. Like the Buffalo Bills did in 2017 when the Chiefs traded with them to take Patrick Mahomes (who is now generally regarded as the best in the biz)… or in 2022 when K.C. traded up in front of those same Bills to take CB Trent McDuffie. Nate Taylor at The Athletic (subscription required) has his Mock 2.0 out and he says woudl trade up and that he would pick:

R1, Pick No. 27: Adonai Mitchell, WR, Texas

R2, Pick No. 64: Christian Haynes, G, Connecticut

R3, Pick No. 90: Calen Bullock, S, USC

R4, Pick No. 104: Tommy Eichenberg, LB, Ohio State

R4, Pick No. 119: Ben Sinnott, TE, Kansas State

R5, Pick No. 159: Drake Nugent, C, Michigan

R5, Pick No. 173 (comp): Dillon Johnson, RB, Washington

R7, Pick No. 221: Marcellas Dial, CB, South Carolina

I love the idea of having 5 top 100 picks. “100 you say? Looks like the top 119 to me.” This draft is so stocked with NFL talent, that i believe their are top 100 talents to be had in the top 119. Let me know what you think?
