Chiefs Headliners, 11-11-23

Laddie Morse

There’s no game this weekend for the Kansas City Chiefs — because it’s their Bye Week — but that doesn’t mean they haven’t been in the news or making it. Now that the Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce is dating the pop icon, Taylor Swift, there’s even more news to follow, so let’s get to it.

Swift is now in Argentina carrying on her sold out Eras concert tour and her boyfriend — and our favorite TE — is there with her now in support. Swift attended several games for the Chiefs since she and Travis have begun to make headlines on the dating circuit. From KMBC.com comes this:

Here’s Taylor singing at here Eras Tour:

Here’s Taylor Swift’s unabridged 45-song Set List:

With a “Little Help From His Friends”… Bryan Cook got by just fine in the game against the Miami Dolphins last weekend. Actually, he had the play of the game, which I’ve watched 50 times give or take a few dozen as I’ve lost track of how many. Here’s one more peak at it –from Mitch Holthus point of view (1:51):

The reality is… football is a team sport and it takes more than a village to help your team win. The Chiefs offense failed in the second half… but not the defense. Nope the D came through big time! Trent McDuffie stripped the ball from ex-Chief Tyreek Hill, Safety Mike Edwards deserves credit for not only recovering the football once McDuffie stripped it, but also for having the wherewithal to lateral it to Bryan Cook who high stepped it down the line all the way to the end zone. Magnificent play… if you’re a Chiefs fan!

Last year our Punter Tommy Townsend was so good that he made the Pro Bowl. This year, ArrowheadPride.com has named Butker the team’s Special Team MVP at the mid-point of the season… and I couldn’t agree more!

The song comes from the movie by Prince called, “Purple Rain” and it encapsulates the theme of that film. The way the Chiefs defense is playing this year, you could also use that same song to describe this group of defenders and the way they’ve been playing. It’s crazy-good for sure.

Here’s Chris Jones going crazy as he’s mic’ed up for the game with the Dolphins. Enjoy (2:56):

Love, Love, Love the hugs between Chris Jones and Tyreek Hill at the end.

Charles Goldman wrote a piece for atozsports.com called: “State of the Chiefs: 3 bold predictions for the remainder of the season” and his predictions (happily) include:

  1. Patrick Mahomes and the offense will get right
  2. The defense will keep rolling and might get even better
  3. The Chiefs will host their sixth consecutive AFC championship game

If your read my piece just yesterday called, “Chiefs: Winning the AFC West Race” then you’ll understand better why I agree with Charles Goldman. The Patriots — in their heyday — hosted 7 AFC Championship games over a 15 year span, so it’s decidedly a big deal for the Chiefs to continue to host those games.

When middle linebacker Nick Bolton returns, the Defense will get even better than it has been with Drue Tranquill running the show, and doing an admirable job in the meantime. Patrick Mahomes has struggled by the mid-season of other years but perhaps never like this. His Wide receivers really need ot pick up the pace if PM is going to “Get Right” as Goldman suggest is will.

If Patrick Mahomes does get right… it’s Checkmate for the rest of the league… and this team will be super hard to beat.

Now, we need to be thinking about how GM Brett Veach will transition form this year to the next. We have a boatload of player who need ot eb resigned. The question is: who won’t be resinged? I just don’t see how they can keep all their own players. Just like last year, a number of players walked in free agency and the same will certainly happen after this year is over.

Time to be planning ahead.
