Chiefs Mock Mondays:

Mock Forth, Mock Forth!

by Laddie Morse | March 11, 2019

The first Mock today comes from David Bell. Here’s what he had to say:

“The numbers on the right side of each pick are the DrafTek ranking number.

  • R 2 Pick 6 (JAX): Ferguson, Jaylon, DE, Louisiana Tech (A+)47
  • R 2 Pick 29: Mullen, Trayvon, CB, Clemson (A)45
  • R 2 Pick 31: Hockenson, T.J., TE, Iowa (A-)23
  • R 3 Pick 5 (JAX): Tillery, Jerry, DT, Notre Dame (A+)33
  • R 3 Pick 28: Thornhill, Juan, SS, Virginia (A+)24
  • R 5 Pick 29: Hall, Emanuel, WR, Missouri (A+)72
  • R 6 Pick 28: Tauaefa, Josiah, ILB, Texas-San Antonio (A+)154
  • R 6 Pick 41 (COMP): Russell, Dontavius, DT, Auburn (A+)125
  • R 7 Pick 2: Anderson, Rodney, RB, Oklahoma (A+)114

Not a bad draft (although it) did not get the 2nd CB but the rest was very good. Traded back in the first round with Jacksonville. Accomplished getting out of 1st round money and didn’t suffer at all. There are 9 picks, and all but 3 are in the top 100 (according to DrafTek).”

The next Mock comes to us from Chiefly Bacon (Ransom Hawthorne):

That may be a little hard to read so here’s a recap:

  • 29. DL Clelin Ferrell
  • 61. CB Trayvon Mullen
  • 63. S Darnell Savage
  • 92. DL Renell Wren
  • 167. TE Foster Moreau
  • 201. WR Jalen Hurd
  • 214. RB Dexter Williams
  • 216. CB Saivion Smith

It looks like Ransom took care to make sure the Chiefs could draft two CBs. I especially like the Clelin Ferrell pick. If the Chiefs could come away with Ferrell, I’d be thrilled.

Here’s a Mock I did on Saturday and appears to fit well with the parameters that David set out in his piece on Sunday called, “Chiefs: Prospectors, Prognosticators and Pundits: a New Inside-Out View“…

Joejuan Williams is a long Corner who goes 6-foot-4 and 211 lbs. but didn’t run a fast 40 at 4.64. So, you can’t really count on him to deliver on the coverage of deep balls but if the Chiefs sign a good Safety in free agency, perhaps he’d fit well. CB Iman Marshall from USC projected as a high pick in this year’s draft, but that was when the college season started in September. So, he’s fallen off a lot. However, I think he may still be a good player when all is said and done.

Getting a defensive lineman is a common theme here in all three Mocks, and I have high hopes that will happen in the coming draft.

Remember, today is the first day that NFL Teams and Free Agents agents can begin to talk about a new contract… without talking to the players (as if that hasn’t happened already). Here’s what the actual NFL rule says:

“Clubs are permitted to contact, and enter into contract negotiations with, the certified agents of players who will become Unrestricted Free Agents upon the expiration of their 2018 player contracts at 4:00 p.m., New York time, on March 13.”
