Chiefs: Reid Retire? When Pigs Fly!

Pigs are never going to fly of course… and although Andy Reid will eventually retire, guess what? Not today!

Or anytime soon for that matter. The Chiefs organization didn’t just decide to quietly squelch all those annoying questions from reporters regarding whether Andy will retire or not. No, they decided to shut them up in epic fashion by entering into contract talks with the 3 time Super Bowl winning coach. Negotiations that would keep him in Kansas City as their Head Coach for the foreseeable future. How about them Ch… apples!?

It had to get a little annoying for Reid, who is 65, having to yield the questions of retirement every single time he stepped up to a podium, especially since the man had given no inclination he was ready to step away from the NFL. Why would he? The man is having the time of his life. When you have the keys to a Ferrari, retirement age or not, you drive the wheels off that thing!

NFL Networks Tom Pelissero first broke the rumor of contract negotiations between Reid and the Chiefs. Speculation is, he will be made the NFL’s highest paid Head Coach. This doesn’t surprise me, he has most certainly earned it. He inherited an atrociously bad Chiefs team that went 2-14 in 2012 and upon being handed the keys, almost instantaneously turned them into contenders. The Chiefs have gone 11 consecutive seasons under his tutelage without a losing record, missing the playoffs only once in that 11-year time frame.

Andy Reid is so well known now that he has his own Snickers Commercial (0:30):

In 25 years as a head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs, Andy has won 3 Super Bowls, 5 Conference Championships and 14 division titles… and… he is just getting warmed up. The Dynamic Duo of Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid have the NFL’s version of the Triple Crown in their sights. No NFL team has ever been victorious in 3 consecutive Super Bowls, there have been some strike outs, but no team has yet to hit it out of the park. If there is any team that can forge their name into the history books, it is this Andy Reid led Chiefs. Here’s Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt on immediately following their Super Bowl LVIII victory, including that Andy Reid is not retiring (1:32).

Clark Hunt ain’t no dummy, he gets it… a big fat satchel of cash is what you give a coach that has taken your team to the playoffs 10 of 11 seasons, 8 consecutive AFC West titles, 6 consecutive AFC Conference Championships and 4 Super Bowls!

Andy, fondly known as “Big Red,” by his players and friends, has played a huge (no pun intended) role in the success of the Chiefs this last decade. He brought a winning culture with him from Philadelphia, where he had great success. Something that had been sorely missing in Kansas City since the days when Marty Schottenheimer walked the sidelines.

The stars have definitely aligned for Andy, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the entire Chiefs Kingdom. Like I said in my previous article, the Chiefs are rocking the 2020’s with smart moves, hard work and tons of dedicated determination. Sprinkle all of that with an enormous amount of talent that totally engulfs this organization from top to bottom and you get a Lombardi producing juggernaut.

Looks like Andy Reid is just a winner all the way around (hamburger pun intended).
