“Chiefs, the #1 most intriguing team this offseason”

The Kansas City Chiefs are the #1 most intriguing team in the NFL this offseason. With every sports site, channel, and radio station blaring the Kyler Murray story… the Chiefs are still the #1 most intriguing team this offseason. With both Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell racing to jump ship from the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Chiefs are the #1 most intriguing team this offseason. With the one of the league’s most iconic owners in Robert Kraft, fighting a prostitution charge, the Chiefs are the #1….

There’s no doubt about it, the Kansas City Chiefs have become “the” news event of the National Football League’s offseason in 2019. The #1 reason for that is, well, Brett Veach… or, I mean Patrick Mahomes… or, I mean Andy Reid… or, I mean Brett Veach. Oh geez, it’s the modern day NFL version of the chicken or the egg. However, if it wasn’t for Patrick Mahomes, we wouldn’t be in this situation… I mean Andy Reid… no… Brett Veach. Oh, never mind.

Peter Schrager who is now most associated with Good Morning Football says it best:

We should give GM Brett Veach his due. If he hadn’t bugged Andy Reid repeatedly about looking at the tape of Patrick Mahomes in the winter and spring of 2017, PMII may never have become a Chief. In a piece called, “This QB trait is enticing NFL GMs to take a gamble more than ever” Terez Paylor told this story about Brett Veach and Andy Reid:

“Some time during the fall, right around the midway point of the season, Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach looked down at his cellphone when he saw a text from his mentor that makes him grin to this day. ‘You’ve changed the future of the organization with this kid,‘ Chiefs coach Andy Reid wrote to Veach.”

Of course it is well documented that Andy Reid has been “called” a QB-Whisperer and whether you buy into that notion or not, no one can deny that it was in Andy Reid’s system that Patrick Mahomes was able to excel and exceed all expectations.

Now, the Chiefs are one offsides penalty away from going back to the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 years… so, what do they do? Make one or two minor changes? Nope. No way. They fire their embumant “genius” Defensive Coordinator and begin to place most all their defensive stars on the trading block.

What fans should be excited about is that Brett Veach — the Patrick Mahomes “dowsing rod” — is hot on the trail of some impact players in both the draft and in Free Agency, players who could help the organization springboard to the biggest game of the year and turn this team into perennial pillars and hosts of the playoffs at Arrowhead Stadium.

It’s not only a good day to be a Chiefs fan, it’s a good decade.

While many analysts chase down the story of where prospect Kyler Murray will land, the Chiefs offseason remains the most intriguing tale of all. This is the stuff that great bedtime stories — for Chiefs fans — are made of. Now, was it Patrick Mahomes or Andy Reid or Brett Veach… that made this the #1 most intriguing offseason story? Well, since it’s a team game… it could have been Clark Hunt.
