Chiefs: These Are A Few Of Our Favorite Things

As we look back over the season that’s about to conclude, we’d like to share some of our favorite things about the Kansas City Chiefs, even though there are those who would say this has not been their favorite season. Each of our gifted writers share a few of their favorite things.

We all love brown paper packages, tied up with strings,

Santa gives a home game vs the Steelers among our Favorite things,

When the dog bites and the Chiefs fell,
to the Dark Birds, Bolts of light in the Sky,

Trampled by a Bison Herd and rolled to the dirt,

In a Titan reprise,

When the bee stings,
When I’m feeling sad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don’t feel so bad.

Not to be sentimental or anything, when it comes to the Chiefs, other than the obvious things: Coach Reid, PMII, Honey Badger, Cheetah, a revamped defense, and a powerful offensive line, one of my favorite things is ArrowheadOne. Not only having had the honor of writing for ArrowheadOne for the past (almost) three years, but also reading the other writer’s articles. The comradeship (despite the occasional flare-up) in the Disqus boards is great, as well. I particularly like the tidbits of history sprinkled throughout the day, as well as the in-depth breakdowns of aspects of football I’m not well-versed in, such as the O-line and the D-line. Nary a day goes by, where I don’t peruse the comments without learning something new and being just a little bit smarter each day. Honestly Laddie, and my fellow writers, I truly appreciate you all, along with our regular readers and frequent commenters. ArrowheadOne is truly a special place for Chiefs fans.

Merry Christmas, my AO family!

My favorite thing about this season has been the progress made by the defense. Many in the National Media like to focus on the regression of the offense and of Patrick, and there has been some of that, though I would argue most has been just really odd luck. However, the story of this season has been the dominance of the defense. So many pieces have come together at once, and many of those pieces are cost controlled for the future.

Having an inexpensive secondary outside of the Honey Badger allows us to get by with the huge amount of money we are spending on our defensive line. The Chiefs now can win in multiple ways. If the offense is off, the defense can pick them up. Imagine how powerful this team would be if the offense got back consistently to the level it has in the past couple of years. Talk about a dynasty. The defense has been the best thing about this season for me.

Merry Christmas,

Here are a few of my favorite Chiefs things:

Winning the West, In dominant fashion

A running game to compliment the passes

Total lockdown defense the past 6 weeks

If they keep this up they’ll be playing for a ring!!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Y’all!!

Chiefs: These are a Few of My Favorite Things

This Christmas I find myself thankful for everything the Chiefs bring to my life. The connection I still feel to my Papa, the way I get to connect with my kids about my love for the team, and the joy that watching Mahomes brings. This team, with Andy Reid at the helm, and Patrick Mahomes coordinating magic on the field, is more exciting than anything I have ever watched. If I had to choose one thing: the character of this team takes the cake. This team has a way of keeping itself out of trouble and being a shining example for the rest of the league!!

Things may just have finally rolled up and KC can tie up the division and more if the cards fall right, but December 26th, we can unwrap another decisive present: Steelers to fall making the win streak 8 in a row. If that is my Christmas present, Santa… Let it be so!

Willie Gay finally engaged, healthy and he is a playmaker. I am now convinced that Nick Bolton’s pairing with Gay is going to be a great thing. Even Spags has sung high praise for both players, they are always in the Fray. After adding Melvin Ingram and pitching Chris Jones along with Jarran Reid from the inside, Frank Clark awoke to the “Ten Pins” rumbling.

O’er a seemingly insurmountable mountainous divide. Because of this, the men in the backfield of the defense are creating turnovers and scores: Fenton returned to practice this week, Thornhill and Mathieu give me great confidence in preventing opponents aerial game with Ward, Fenton and Sneed tying up receivers. Sneed, Fenton and Ward are all forcing errors and I am aglow with the promise of this back end. The Chiefs Defense has cause da big scoring discrepancy as 6 of the last 7 games have shown with only one loss (Titans) and all teams otherwise were held to 17 & under in scoring.

Suddenly, our defense has turned the corner.

As giddy as I am about the defense, what I see up front on offense is big men, who can toss enemy to and fro. I am very pleased with the play of the big guys and it has finally gelled.

I can’t make my mind up: is Andy Reid toying with NFL foes, hiding his true offensive prowess and luring all teams to defeat long before post season play begins… or… I would not put it past Andy to hold off stirring the pot with new play designs and then the magical playoff formula of all 3 units hitting on all cylinders.

There’s more than a few things that are my favorite when thinking of this year’s group. So many of the lesser players, the one’s who do so much of the dirty work. Michael Burton replacing Anthony Sherman a FB had to be a difficult ask but he’s done very well in that role. It also had to be a tough task for Melvin Ingram to move to Pittsburgh in late July and three months later… assimilate into the Chiefs culture and organization. However, he’s been a game changer for K.C. and their D-line and a huge reason for the overall defensive resurgence.

I know Tyrann Mathieu is often praised but he deserves even more praise than he gets. Mathieu leads he team in Interceptions (3) and Fumbles recovered (2) and is second on the team in tackles with 65. Same goes for rookie Nick Bolton. he also deserves more praise than he is getting. Not only does he lead the team in tackles with 105, bu he far outdistances everyone else with eleven (11) tackles for a loss (TFL). L’Jarius Sneed and Chris Jones are tied for second with 6 TFLs each.

Back to the less known players. Players like: Charvarius Ward who leads he Chiefs in Passes Defensed with 8, or Mike Hughes who leads K.C. with four (4) forced fumbles, or the much maligned Frank Clark who leads all Chiefs defenders with 15 QB Hits.

Probably my most favorite-est thing of all is… getting to write with such a talented group of writers and call them my friends. My weekly phone calls to talk all about the Chiefs with David Bell is pretty darn special too! It’s shaping up to be another great season for the Kansas City Chiefs and they just have way too many favorite things to ever mention them all.
