Today it was reported that the Kansas City Chiefs Jamaal Charles has been moved to the Injured Reserve list and will not be available to the team for the remainder of the 2016 football season (8 weeks).  Before I comment on any other aspect of what this may mean for the team, I’d like to say that Jamaal Charles must be incredibly heartbroken and my heart goes out to him. It’s already been suggested by K.C. radio shock-jocks that this may be the end of his career and while that may be true, I hope with every ounce of my own inner-Disney-kid-magic-hope… and more… that it’s not true. Beyond quoting all kinds of meaningful stats, JC has spent a number of years as the face of the franchise and has literally and figuratively carried the team on his back.

Rotoworld had this to share about JC,

“NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reports Jamaal Charles needs a second operation on his surgically-repaired right knee. It could be an exploratory operation, as ESPN’s Ed Werder reports both the team and Dr. James Andrews have been unable to determine the source of Charles’ continued pain. It’s looking extremely unlikely that Charles will be a candidate for return from injured reserve in eight weeks.”

On October 11, 2015, Jamaal went down with a knee injury against the Chicago Bears that would take him out for the remainder of that season. Charles worked diligently to get back to playing shape and was thought to be nearly back to the place where he could begin to compete with starter Spencer Ware for first team reps.

With Parker Ehinger out for the year, RB Spencer Ware going through the NFL’s concussion protocol and QB Alex Smith coming off of the concussion protocol… it’s easy to see that the Chiefs are a banged up team. Now, the Chiefs must focus their energies on the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars in hopes that a game against one of the worst, if not the worst, teams in the league will help to fix what ails them.

What do you think Chiefs fans? Is the offense not going to miss a beat without Jamaal Charles like last year? Could the game against the Jags be a trap game?
