What sticks out to most of us first is… four CBs. Just remember that Brett Veach has stated, three of he Safeties can well play in coverage: Mathieu, Thornhill and Lucas. In fact, that has been a big part of his offseason plan at CB, to use the Safeties in coverage and that is one of the reasons Steve Spagnuolo was hired… because he likes to move his Safeties around to disguise coverages. Which, allows him to keep opposing QBs guessing. So, even if they had another very good CB to use, Spags would still employ this method on the back end.

CB Herb Miller tweeted out a strong message, even if it was vague as to whether or not he was cut.

Chiefs Twitter Litter is in a landslide and blowing up that Veach needs to sign a Cornerback. We all get that. Whether or not he will do that this week remains to be seen. Miami CB Xavien Howard’s name has been mentioned online but no one from the organization has made a peep as to whether or not he’s actually available. So, let’s not get our hopes up there.

While we’d all like to feel better about the defense and it’s chances moving forward, we’re not going to be able to see what we really have there for at least a month. It takes that long for a group that’s mostly new to each other and mostly new to the scheme to put it all together. Jacksonville, Oakland, Baltimore and Detroit. That should give the D enough time to understand what up in Spags approach. That’s also when Morris Claiborne will return adn give the back end a much needed boost. Go Chiefs!
