One Transaction and Sweet Tweets of the Week

There was plenty to talk about, even though there wasn’t much movement on the roster front from the Kansas City Chiefs:

05/17/2017: Reshard Cliett (LB) awarded off waivers from Tennessee;

Jimmy Hall (LB) placed on waivers

NBC Sports says of LB Cliett:

“Cliett entered the league as a sixth-round pick of the Texans in 2015 and he spent his rookie season on injured reserve. His 2016 season was spent bouncing from place to place as he spent time with the Broncos, Jets, and Cardinals in a futile attempt to find his way into a regular season game. That’s not great, but signing with the Titans in January and getting picked up by the Chiefs is a sign that people remain interested in unlocking Cliett’s abilities.”

Reshard Cliett is a 6-foot-2 inch, 235 lb. LB from South Florida and appears to have the requisite neck that’s wider than his head. He had 109 tackles his junior and senior seasons. Cliett ran a 4.51 40-yard dash. That speed is likely the main reason he caught the Chiefs eye. General Manager John Dorsey, forever the optimist, is hoping that the Kansas City coaches can unlock Cliett’s potential when nearly a half a dozen other teams could not. There’s not a lot of tape on Cliett but from what I can tell, he more of a read-and-react LB. While he has some speed and quickness, I haven’t seen him sniff a play out before it has the chance to develop like Derrick Johnson often does. To be an excellent LB in the NFL, you must be able to do both: read-and-react… and play instinctually. Here’s some game tape of Reshard Cliett in his junior season. He’s #16 and plays ILB most of the time. You may want to turn the volume down because the chosen music is monotonous.

As I said previously, there were plenty of other things to talk about this week:

Seth Keysor on Justin Houston

Alex Smith on Drafting Patrick Mahomes II

B.J. Kissel on Travis Kelce

Bob Fescoe on Colin Kaepernick

RB Kareem Hunt’s Jersey Reveal

Chiefs Could Have One of the Best Pass Rushes

Closing Thoughts: Reid and McNabb

B.J. Kissel shared a piece this week in which Donovan McNabb talks about his old coach Andy Reid. McNabb said,

“It’s sort of like that father figure where you keep in contact with your son,” McNabb, who tried to articulate a dynamic that’s largely defined his path and career, explained. “It’s just I was a little older when he finally decided to adopt me as I was coming out of college. We’ve had a lot of success together and we’ve also built a bond and a relationship off the field. When I got married to my college sweetheart, [Reid] was there. My wife and Tammy [Reid] have a built a relationship as well. I always had Andy there by my side anytime I needed information, was stuck in a bind, had a personal issue or whatever it may be. He was there.”

Andy Reid has been called a “QB Whisperer” before but it sounds like he’s been more of a “Life Whisperer” instead.

Go Chiefs!!!
