The Chiefs Are Not Coddiwompling, Their Biggest Rival is Themselves!

Andy Reid has stated this, as have various coaches, and players. My problem with this is that the Chiefs appear to be ambling toward their goal, not marching purposely (as demonstrated by mistakes, penalties, and dropped passes). Many Players have also stated that the goal is to win the Super Bowl. They did win the AFC West Again. They failed to secure goal #2 – obtain the bye for the AFC. Still, winning the division once again – the Chiefs’ football team deserves accolades for that accomplishment.

  1. I fail to understand why the OL has performed so poorly. We had experienced OTs who have both experienced problems protecting Patrick Mahomes. Then Wanya Morris was inserted for Donovan Smith. His inexperience slip is showing. Even the IOL has had its failures, especially in blocking for the run.
  2. I remain nonplussed regarding the WR crew: as noted, dropped passes and mistakes that resulted in turnovers. Even more disturbing is the failure of both Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Skyy Moore, who failed to be a part of the offensive aerial threat.
  3. Patrick Mahomes is part of the problem – he is missing WRs, especially in the over-the-top game (deep ball attempts).
  4. Playcalling: game after game, the playcalling has not been up to snuff. The play designs are complicated and fail to provide routes that get WRs open early in the route sequence. Further, Andy Reid may have plays called, and Mahomes has passed up the shorter routes to go deeper. When a game manager play would work, Andy Reid doesn’t use those plays.

That Covers what is disturbing about the team. I am nearly completely pleased about the Kicking game and the performance of the defense. With one game remaining, Harrison Butker is still perfect in kicking extra points and he has only missed two FGAs. In the last game, Butker outscored the opponent on his own and the defense held the Bengals 17 points. The Defense has been close to outstanding. Allowing only four opponents to score more than 20 points(21 twice, 24 and 27). All four of the losses should have been victories if the Chiefs averaged 28 PPG.

Laddie Morse penned an article about the victory over the Bengals which he called “Butker’s Game.”

For the first time in many seasons, my doubt about the likelihood of post-season success is very high. For the first time in eons the Chiefs Defense can be counted on, but the offense has failed miserably across the board.
