The Chiefs Crazy Super Bowl

I’m not so sure about the Kansas City Chiefs right now. They have undergone so many personal challenges that I’m wondering if they can be re-focused enough to squeak out a victory over the San Francisco 49ers? Let’s review.

It all began in week 18 when Travis Kelce decided to sit out a week to rest his weary bones so he could be ready for the incoming Miami Dolphins. We all know how that turned out. The Chiefs beat the Dolphins but good in a 26-to-7 victory going away. Now, that may not strike fear in most fans but let’s dig a little deeper into the personal changes taking place among the Chiefs players recently.

L’Jarius Sneed and his girlfriend, Bella Wu, had a baby girl.

Now, this is not much news unless a player misses Super Bowl practice… uh-oh… he did.

Sneed told media that the birth of his child gives him extra motivation. He also said:

Change things? Hmmm… I hope that doesn’t mean he will be changing things on the field of play. Sneed had his best year yet so we can only hope that doesn’t mean he’ll be different — in a bad way — come Super Bowl Sunday.

Also, the Chiefs have had a recent visit from ex-OC Eric Bieniemy. James Palmer spells it out:

Now, the Chiefs don’t need any confusiont in their Offensive room when it comes to who is in charge. It’s Matt Nagy’s offense but as we know, Andy Reid has written the playbook and maintains his hold on the whole Offensive, and organizational, shebang.

Another swirling controvery is that of Kadarius Toney.

Will Toney, or won’t Toney, be an active player for this game? If he is active, that means Reid and Nagy will have designed plays specifically for him. If he’s not made available, that means the work that GM Brett Veach did to bring him to K.C. more than a year ago, is all for naught… unless you count the performance he had in last year’s Super Bowl.

Another bit of turmoil is the loss of Jawaan Taylor’s mother just days ago.

I know how it feels… I lost my older brother on Christmas night this past year. He was my best friend and I believe I’ll never be “over it.” The question remains for Jawaan Taylor: will dedicating this game to her help him, or will he be a detriment to the team?

I can recall when Andy Reid’s son –Britt — was in an accident right before Super Bowl LV and they lost 31-to-9 and never scored a touchdown in the process. Will this game produce a similar result? We all know that the little girl — Ariel — he injured has survived, but Britt Reid was given a DWI (Drinking While Intoxicated) ticket and eventually was given three years prison time as of November of 2022. From KCTV5 news:

The immediate effect on Andy Reid? Well, we do know they lost that Super Bowl and we’re hoping there will not be a similar result this time around, simply because so many Chiefs players have unsettling issues.

The Chiefs have also had to, fight through, and answer questions about:

That last question is relevant because Omenihu would have been going up against his old team, had he been able to play. In the meantime, it appears that the biggest question surrounding the 49ers has to do with the conditions of their practice field. Big Whoop! The Chiefs may have multiple questions to be answered, but I do like the Chiefs ex-QB, Alex Smith’s, take:

Not only did Derrick Thomas, #58, pass away on Thursday the 8th of February, so did Marty Schottenheimer:

The 49ers may have some minor issues to deal with, but with so many incidents involving the Chiefs, their organization and players, let’s hope that doesn’t overwhelm them so we can see a great Super Bowl effort on Sunday.
