Chiefs: The Top 5 Facts to Know About the Draft

Laddie Morse

The 2024 NFL draft is a mere 12 days away. So, it’s time to take some facts into consideration when preparing for this event.

There were approximately 22 teams involved in trades in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. You’d have to be an idiot savant to predict the number of trades this year given the number of Quarterbacks to be taken in the first round (see my piece on “The Bump Method on Meth“). While most of those QBs will be taken early in this years draft, don’t forget that 8 of the first 6 picks in the second round of hte 2023 draft were also involved in trades as well.

The red lines indicate the teams who have two first round picks. These are also the teams I’d expect to be trading the most: the Arizona Cardinals down, and the Minnesota Vikings up or possibly the Bears #9 pick traded out of the first round altogether, presumably to gain more picks. AZ doesn’t need a QB, MIN does, while CHI is taking USC QB, Caleb Williams, first overall (count on it).

Since the Chicago Bears have the fewest picks throughout the whole draft with 4, I’d expect them to trade their #9 pick backwards to gain more picks. This is supposed to be a loaded draft at many critical positions so that increases the possibility.

The Cards, Rams, Packers each have 11 picks throughout this draft. So, if they wanted to package their picks and move up, that seem entirely possible too.

There have never been more mocks than there have been this year. Sites that rank the Prospects have increased as well. Here are three main ones that I like to use and I depend upon these for not only reviewing those prospects, but evaluating them:

That breaks down like this:
